A comprehensive assessment of heavy metal contamination in road dusts along a hectic national highway of Bangladesh: spatial distribution, sources of contamination, ecological and human health risks

چکیده
Human activities around or within national highways, combined with atmospheric mixing, produce road dust, which can cause health problems through a variety of exposure routes. Thus, the study was aimed to investigate contamination, spatial distribution, potential ecological and human risks various toxic heavy metals such as lead (Pb), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni) arsenic (As) in dusts samples collected from traffic load land-use types along hectic Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway, Bangladesh. The mean concentrations Pb, Cu, Cr, Cd, Zn, Ni As were found 50.8 ± 15.7, 82.6 17.2, 20.1 5.7, 0.18 0.06, 126.2 40.7, 14.1 4.7 0.12 0.04 mg/kg, respectively, whereas Cd Zn evidently several times higher than respective background values. values variance coefficient (VC) exhibited that magnitudes metal pollutions across sites dominated by anthropogenic activities, while principal component analysis (PCA) cluster (CA) identified vehicular industrial emissions major sources dusts. geo-accumulation index (Igeo) indicated most dust unpolluted moderately polluted metals. contamination factor (CF) following order: Cu > Pb Cr As, degree (CD) moderate considerable level contamination. Furthermore, site posed low risks, despite fact non-carcinogenic carcinogenic threats pathways appear insignificant, children being more vulnerable adults.

Introduction: Road dust is a group of solid particles that are presented in the urban areas and are originated from both natural and human-induced sources. This study aims to determine concentrations of heavy metals in urban dusts in Behbahan to identify their natural or anthropogenic sources. Materials and Methods: In this study, a total of 20 samples were collected from main roads with diffe...

Assessment of Ecological and Human Health Risks of Heavy Metal Contamination in Agriculture Soils Disturbed by Pipeline Construction
The construction of large-scale infrastructures such as nature gas/oil pipelines involves extensive disturbance to regional ecosystems. Few studies have documented the soil degradation and heavy metal contamination caused by pipeline construction. In this study, chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) levels were evaluated using Index of Geo-accumulation (...

Heavy metal pollution has become a serious health concern in recent years, because of industrial and agricultural development. Heavy metals of industrial bio-waste contaminate drinking water, food and air. The toxic heavy metals of great concern are Cd, Pb and Hg which are usually associated with harmful effects in men and animals. It is recognized that heavy metals may exercise a definite infl...
متن کاملSpatial distribution and degree of heavy metal pollution in urban roadside dusts from Sanandaj, Iran
Industrial activities and high traffic density are the most important heavy metal pollution sources in urban areas. Roadside dust created by atmospheric deposition can be one of the best indicators for heavy metal contamination levels. The present study reports the spatial distribution patterns and degree of heavy metal pollution (Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, Zn, and As) in 50 roadside dust samples from urb...
