چکیده
We report the transformation of a conventional composite material into multifunctional structure able to provide information about its structural integrity. A purposely positioned grid carbon fabric strips located within glass fibre laminate in alternating 0/90 configuration combined with ternary nanomodified epoxy matrix imparted health monitoring (SHM) topographic capabilities using impedance spectroscopy (IS) technique. The was reinforced homogenously dispersed multi-walled nanotubes (MWCNTs) and black (CB). sinusoidal electric field applied locally over frequency range from 1 Hz 100 kHz between junction points strips. proposed design enabled damage assessment after high-velocity impact via local impedance. data obtained IS measurements were depicted by magnitude phase delay Bode plots Nyquist plots. values used create 2D multi-layer (3D) contour topographical image damaged area, which revealed crucial integrity composite.

Impedance-based Structural Health Monitoring
1. Introduction The development of a real-time, in-service structural health monitoring and damage detection technique has recently attracted a large number of academic and industrial researchers. The goal of this research is to allow systems and structures to monitor their own integrity while in operation and throughout their lives in order to prevent catastrophic failures and to reduce the co...
متن کاملStructural health monitoring using piezoelectric impedance measurements.
This paper presents an overview and recent advances in impedance-based structural health monitoring. The basic principle behind this technique is to apply high-frequency structural excitations (typically greater than 30kHz) through surface-bonded piezoelectric transducers, and measure the impedance of structures by monitoring the current and voltage applied to the piezoelectric transducers. Cha...
متن کاملStructural Health Monitoring for Composite Materials
A composite material can be defined as a combination of two or more distinct materials at a macroscopic level to attain new properties that can’t be achieved by those of individual components acting alone. Different from metallic alloys, each material keeps its own chemical, physical and mechanical properties [1]. Composite materials have reinforcing and matrix phases. The reinforcing phase wit...

In recent years, impedance measurement method by piezoelectric (PZT) wafer activesensor (PWAS) has been widely adopted for non-destructive evaluation (NDE). In this method, theelectrical impedance of a bonded PWAS is used to detect a structural defect. The electro-mechanicalcoupling of PZT materials constructs the original principle of this method. Accordingly, the electricalimpedance of PWAS c...
