The Use of Flow Cytometric DNA Ploidy Analysis of Liver Biopsies in Liver Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common human cancer world-wide but the third most common cause of mortality and evidence has been accumulating in various countries that HCC is increasing (Andrisani et al., 2011; Parkin et al., 2000; Perkin, 2004). Major etiologic agents in HCC pathogenesis are chronic infection with hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C virus (Bruix et al., 2004; Po...

The liver is involved in the synthesis and metabolism of many kinds of hormones, various abnormalities hormone levels are found in advanced liver disease. For example the liver is, extremely sensitive to changes in insulin or glucagon levels. The liver is the primary organ of iron storage is frequently involved, diabetes is common in patients with iron overload and may be seen in cirrhosis. Chr...
متن کاملEvaluation of miR-101 Level in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection and Liver Cirrhosis
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: MiRNAs are small RNAs that are expressed in most eukaryotes, and can regulate gene expression by attaching to the 3’ end of target mRNA. MicroRNA-101 (miR-101) post-transcriptional regulation is important for host-virus interactions. In addition, miR-101 has a tumor suppressive role in liver cancer and metastasis, an...
متن کاملBINDING OF NAPROXEN TO SERUM PROTEINS IN PATIENTS WITH LIVER CIRRHOSIS AND HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS
A three-fold decrease of the in vitro ability of serum proteins to bind naproxen was shown in patients with cirrhosis of the liver compared to healthy individuals. This decrease was caused by quantitative changes in serum proteins in the sera of patients with liver damage. Lower doses of naproxen are therefore suggested in the treatment of patients with liver dysfunction.
