Effect of minimal pre-treatment on reverse osmosis using surface water as a source

چکیده

Reverse osmosis is increasingly used in drinking water supply for treatment of fresh sources which can directly result high quality water. In practice reverse never applied on sources, predominantly because the occurrence membrane fouling. Strategies to control fouling without expensive and extensive pre-treatment include low flux operation, increase cross-flow velocities improved (periodic) hydraulic cleaning. The objective this research technically economically compare minimal pre-treated state-of-the art ultrafiltration surface obtain A parallel system with six 2540-type spiral wound elements has been systematically operated during several months only screens before osmosis. using did not stable however, also failed longer run. Lowering from 25 L/m2.h 10 RO resulted an approximately 10-fold decrease rate, while influencing pressure drop increase. Periodical air cleaning 4-fold reduction spacer clogging affecting rate. total cost a (10 L/m2.h) was significantly lower (0.46 €/m3) compared state-of-the-art UF at normal (25 (1.21 €/m3). difference financial space provides opportunity develop systems clogging.

Forward Osmosis as a Pre-treatment to Reverse Osmosis

This paper presents some aspects of forward osmosis coupled with reverse osmosis using a recirculating draw solution, to produce desalinated water or for dewatering/concentrating a feed stream, with some data provided from a number of operational sites. Many of these aspects are applicable to other osmotic processes and provide an insight into where they may be appropriately considered. A compa...

Ultrafiltration in Water Treatment and Its Evaluation as Pre-treatment for Reverse Osmosis System

The use of ultrafiltration technology for municipal drinking water applications is a relatively recent concept, although in the beginning, it is already commonly used in many industrial applications such as food or pharmaceutical industries. Ultrafiltration is proven to be a competitive treatment compare with conventional ones. In some cases, the combination of ultrafiltration with conventional...

Effect of Organoclay on the Performance of Reverse Osmosis Membrane

This study investigated the effect of Cloisite15A (C15A) organoclay in the substrate layer on the performance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The substrate of the RO membranes was modified using different loading of C15A (ranging from 0.3 - 0.7 wt%) within polysulfone (PSf) substrate and the polyamide (PA) selective layer was formed on the top. Effect of the modified substrate layer on the w...
