This assignment analyses and researches the multilingual characteristics of Shanghai’s local residents because controversial definitions multi-lingualism. Under national language policy Mandarin promotion, Shanghai dialect is in danger should be cared for. It a qualitative research based on data from literature. From historical perspective, three languages frequently used are discussed it turns out their connection coexistence rather than competition. also reveals that indigenous among Mandarin, Chinese English.
