چکیده

Learner agency, often understood in terms of self-direction and negotiated engagement, is considered important technical vocational education training (TVET). Yet nurturing supporting agency resource-intensive difficult. In this paper, we consider learner for online TVET—a setting where content delivery models can be experienced as stultifying. We document the design evaluation specific task designs using method principle double-stimulation, prompts help participants to reconceptualise problematic situations break out conflicting motives. draw on data from a research-intervention with adult learners undertaking facilities management diploma online, while working. explore how, across nine workshops, engendered transformative agency: ability collaboratively diverge instructional intent, question dilemmatic conditions, propose enact change. claim (1) that double-stimulation tasks encouraged engage understanding institutional practice, exposing conflict, enacting change; (2) came view their own conditions stimuli resistance, criticism, development; (3) resources were crucial highlighting evidence failure learners’ potential roles Our findings are importance set evaluate learning agendas.

Creativity, collaboration and competence: agency in online synchronous chat environment

Agency is potentially an important concept for CSCL as researchers think about the effectiveness of online learning environments and the ways they encourage groups to take active control of their learning activities. This paper reports on several sessions of mathematics problem solving in the VMT Chat environment. The VMT Chat is a synchronous chat and whiteboard space for students to collabora...

Students' Personality and Chat Room Behavior in Synchronous Online Learning

Synchronous chat rooms have been used to support students’ collaborative learning. However, little work has empirically studied its relationship with students’ sense of community and furthermore the role of personality in affecting students’ chat room behavior. In this paper, we report results of a user experiment (with 489 students). We find that students who have actively used chat room posse...

Online State Space Model Parameter Estimation in Synchronous Machines

The purpose of this paper is to present a new approach based on the Least Squares Error method for estimating the unknown parameters of the nonlinear 3rd order synchronous generator model. The proposed method uses the mathematical relationships between the machine parameters and on-line input/output measurements to estimate the parameters of the nonlinear state space model. The field voltage is...

Experiences of Advanced High School Students in Synchronous Online Recitations

The question of how to best design an online course that promotes student-centred learning is an area of on-going research. This mixed-methods study focused on a section of advanced high school students, in college-level mathematics courses, that used a synchronous online environment mediated over web-conferencing software, and whether the affordance of multiple communication channels and stude...
