SUMMARY Infrasound data contain contributions from incoherent noise, coherent noise and signals of interest. The design an infrasound array to target sources interest requires a quantification response, individual sensor propagation effects (topography meteorological conditions), signal spectrum the environment. Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty community has spent significant effort in quantifying acoustic field rural environments for frequencies up 7 Hz. Given that nuclear monitoring tactical have growing interests or near populated regions, there is emergent need measure understand fields these as well. This paper focuses on three different urban environments: (1) arrays installed within Dallas, TX, metropolitan area, (2) at rural–suburban interface San Diego, CA (3) Vicksburg, MS, small city with multiple major transportation corridors. A minimum five months was recorded used each site characterization. analysis 0.1 45 sites accomplished statistical models capture total ambient field, separation portion trend link temporal seasonal variations wind speed anthropogenic activities. resulting physical interpretation demonstrates regions overall higher inversely related number detections observed by array. Furthermore, this study presents framework characterizing additional provides basis future selection installation.
