چکیده

With wood regaining substantial interest as a construction material due to sustainability concerns and aesthetics trends, efficient safe protection methods are needed prevent the discouloration loss of mechanical properties this renewable UV-sensitive material. In study, sustainable coatings comprising 0 20 wt% biocarbon (BC) dispersed in tung oil were developed for protection. BC particles added ultraviolet (UV) absorbers produced by various carbonization routes. The powders characterized terms particle size surface functional groups Fourier-Transform infrared, UV visible absorbance water solutions related these characteristics. Two wooden substrates (beech oak) coated with samples underwent six months onsite weathering. While total colour change uncoated oil-coated without kept increasing over time resulted clear alteration aesthetics, an increased content led enhanced stability, close 2 both species after weathering 10 BC. Coating made substrates, initially hydrophilic, become hydrophobic, further introduction hydrophobicity. However, increase was not correlated repellence, highest contact angle being observed 5 % BC, no improvement hydrophobicity higher content. negatively affected repellence all (i.e., reference content). best protected decrease induced

Polystyrene/wood composites and hydrophobic wood coatings from water-based hydrophilic-hydrophobic block copolymers

D. J. Gardner Department of Forest Management and Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center, University of Maine, Orono, ME 04469, USA Abstract The combination of synthetic thermoplastic polymers and wood is normally problematic because wood surfaces are hydrophilic while typical thermoplastic polymers are hydrophobic. A possible solution is to use block copolymer coupling agents. In this work...

UV-LED Curing Efficiency of Wood Coatings

Ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) have attracted great interest in recent years. They can be used to polymerize coatings, such as those used for prefinished wood flooring. In this project, two lamps were compared for their suitability to be used on a wood flooring finishing line: a UV-microwave and a UV-LED lamp. Low heat emission was found for the UV-LED lamp compared to the UV-micro...

Synergistic Effect of Addition of Fillers on Properties of Interior Waterborne UV-Curing Wood Coatings

A waterborne ultraviolet (UV)-curing coating was prepared on the surface of wood materials with modification of talcum powder and calcium carbonate (CaCO3). When the waterborne UV-curing coatings on the surface of wood materials (WUVCW) was radiated for 1 min by UV (λ = 365 nm) and dried at 40 ◦C for 10 min, it showed good hardness, adhesion, and impact strength, with controlling the talcum con...

Room Temperature Cured Hydrophobic Nano-silica Coatings for Outdoor Insulators Installed on Power Lines without Shutting Down the Current

The goal of the present study is to prepare a room temperature cured hydrophobic and self-cleaning nano-coating for power line insulators. As a result, the installed insulators operating in power lines can be coated without being removed from the circuit and without the need to cut off power. For this purpose, hydrophobic silica nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel method using TEOS and HM...

IR-reflective Opaque Water-based Acrylic Coatings on White Pine Wood Substrates

Two sets of opaque water-based acrylic coatings were prepared with IR-reflective pigments and conventional pigments. The objective of this work was to determine the efficiency of IR-reflective pigments in limiting the heat buildup of opaque coating formulations. Experiments performed on PVC substrates revealed that IR-reflective pigments significantly decreased the temperature increase above ro...
