The electrical‐double layer revisited

چکیده
The electrical-double layer (EDL) model is fundamental to our understanding of interactions in ionic solutions, and widely used chemical, biological, technological contexts, particularly the description aqueous electrolyte solutions. However, recent experiments have raised questions regarding validity this polar, aprotic solvents; some observations, such as a surface potential that changes sign with increasing salt concentration, are not consistent EDL picture. We demonstrate system, acetonitrile at silica interface, solvent organization dictates distributions. Ion-transport measurements nanopores, surface-selective spectroscopy, molecular dynamics simulations reveal distribution ions interface determined by lipid-bilayer-like imposes upon liquid, which accounts for change potential. Our findings emphasize importance including molecules explicitly descriptions solid/liquid interfaces. Key Points In range acetonitrile-based solutions contact silica, effective negative low concentrations positive high concentrations. long-range, preferred locations cations anions. Due organizational effect, classical electrical double-layer modal applicable acetonitrile/silica likely also does hold other systems involving liquids.

Thin Shock-Layer Theory Revisited
During the hypersonics activities of the 1960s, thin shock-layer theory was developed as a rst-order correction to Newtonian theory, in the hope of gaining insight into eÆcient lift at very high speeds. The wings are limited to conical geometry, but can have arbitrary transverse camber. Good predictions were made of the forces generated by delta and caret wings, but no optimization studies were...
متن کاملEkman layer damping of r-modes revisited
We investigate the damping of neutron star r-modes due to the presence of a viscous boundary (Ekman) layer at the interface between the crust and the core. Our study is motivated by the possibility that the gravitational-wave driven instability of the inertial r-modes may become active in rapidly spinning neutron stars, eg. in low-mass X-ray binaries, and the fact that a viscous Ekman layer at ...
متن کاملQUICKSELECT Revisited
We give an overview of the running time analysis of the random divide-and-conquer algorithm FIND or QUICKSELECT. The results concern moments, distribution of FIND’s running time, the limiting distribution, a stochastic bound and the key: a stochastic fixed point equation.
متن کاملPENDRED\'S SYNDROME REVISITED
Pendred's syndrome is defined as a triad of congenital perceptive hearing loss, goiter, and abnormal perchlorate test. Three brothers with Pendred's syndrome [P.S.] are reported. The oldest brother has hearing loss (he has been deaf and mute since childhood) and has a large goiter. A thyroid scan revealed euthyroid multinodular goiter and a perchlorate test was performed, and reported abno...
متن کاملThe function ring functors of pointfree topology revisited
This paper establishes two new connections between the familiar function ring functor ${mathfrak R}$ on the category ${bf CRFrm}$ of completely regular frames and the category {bf CR}${mathbf sigma}${bf Frm} of completely regular $sigma$-frames as well as their counterparts for the analogous functor ${mathfrak Z}$ on the category {bf ODFrm} of 0-dimensional frames, given by the integer-valued f...
