USDA Forest Service Timber Products Output Survey Item Nonresponse Analysis

چکیده
Abstract The Timber Products Output (TPO) survey is used to determine industrial uses of roundwood, reporting on volumes roundwood received and residues generated by the primary forest industry tree species counties harvest. This knowledge aids stakeholders in making informed decisions about available resources and/or harvest intensity. widespread use TPO estimates makes it important understand scale scope missing data survey. first attempt analyzed respondent-level question-level nonresponse (RLNR QLNR, respectively) for Northern Southern regions, comparing response mill profile questions (those providing general business information) those related activity (that wood processing information). RLNR differed between question grouping, mode, volume. QLNR results selected indicate that region generally has lower than region. Parametric analysis indicated mode was significant both groups whereas type parametric self-administered surveys were associated with higher nonresponse, completed sawmills nonresponse. Study Implications: Analysis item national provides analytic background needed assess accuracy completeness data. Population from are monitor production make resources. Responses varied across specific questions, regional differences appeared be mode. Current design could improved allow all assessment quality responses. For adjustment methods comparable factors causing observed difference should addressed.

Wildland fire is an important disturbance agent in the western US and globally. However, the natural role of fire has been disrupted in many regions due to the influence of human activities, which have the potential to either exclude or promote fire, resulting in a ‘‘fire deficit’’ or ‘‘fire surplus’’, respectively. In this study, we developed a model of expected area burned for the western US ...

A. D. Wilson The USDA Forest Service has been involved in Texas oak wilt research since 1976. Despite research successes, there are still many important research areas that have not been addressed or sufficiently investigated to answer the key questions required for making sound disease management decisions. Some of the priority areas planned for future research by the Southern Hardwoods Labora...

Increasing interest in non-timber forest products (NTFPs) has led to their greaterrecognition in sustainable forest management planning. This is evident in local resourcemanagement plans for the Robson Valley in east-central British Columbia, where publicinput shows strong support for the sustainable development of NTFP harvesting. However, information needed to develop sustainab...
متن کاملThe ecological implications of harvesting non-timber forest products
1. The harvest of wild non-timber forest products (NTFP) represents an important source of income to millions of people world-wide. Despite growing concern over the conservation of these species, as well as their potential to foster forest conservation, information on the ecological implications of harvest is available only in disparate case studies. 2. Seventy studies that quantify the ecologi...
