Wind tunnel test and numerical study of a multi-sided wind tower with horizontal heat pipes

Passive ventilation such as wind towers can ventilate spaces by using regional pressure differences and the stack effect. Wind are often closed throughout winter to prevent an increase in heating energy demand. Heat pipes be installed transfer heat from outgoing incoming air, however inclusion of recovery incur a drop that negatively impacts rates. Here it is shown with array horizontally arranged pipes, rates 0.1 m 3 /s maintained at 1 m/s inlet velocity. The air temperature was raised up 2.8 °C, thereby increasing operational window passive system. By mounting through tower, direct facilitated between outlet. results demonstrate how system likely operate months cooler climate according speed difference fresh exhaust air. It intended this will further developed provide both cooling summer respectively installing seasonal thermal loop. • Integration horizontal into multi-sided tower. Full-scale tunnel test used validate numerical model. Maintains number pipes. Pre-heats 2.80 °C. Potentially reduction 860 W.
