application of clay minerals and polymeric resins to remove dissolved microcystin-lr from water
this study aimed to develop techniques for purification of cyanotoxins dissolved in water -particularly those produced by microcystis aeruginosa species - using natural clay, chemically modifiednatural clay, commercial clay and ion exchange and adsorbent resins. except for natural clay, chemical pretreatment was required to increase the adsorption capacity of the treatment materials. all the clays wereexposed to microcystin solutions of 0.5x10-3, 1.0x10-3 and 10.0x10-3 ?g/ml in batch purification processes. the same solutions were used in purification processes with polymeric resins packed in columns. the microcystin- lr samples were quantified using elisa immunoassay and removal capabilities and saturation of the treatment materials were evaluated. the modified clays showed a microcystin-lr removal efficiency rate between 82.90% and 99.86%, while the resins a rate between 87.6% and 99.74%. this study shows that the materials have technologically and economically promising properties for the removal of microcystins from water.
ABSTRACT-Nowadays farmers often use N-fertilizers to increase crop yield, but they lost quickly by leaching causes environmental contaminations that reported as most important source of pollutant. Although biofilters are useful for removing nitrate from drainage water, but many researches show that they need an external carbon source to sustain denitrification. Many researchers study on differe...متن کامل
Histopathology and microcystin distribution in Lymnaea stagnalis (Gastropoda) following toxic cyanobacterial or dissolved microcystin-LR exposure.
The accumulation of hepatotoxic microcystins (MCs) in gastropods has been demonstrated to be higher following grazing of toxic cyanobacteria than from MCs dissolved in ambient water. Previous studies, however, did not adequately consider MCs covalently bound to protein phosphatases, which may represent a considerably part of the MC body burden. Thus, using an immunohistochemical method, we exam...متن کامل
Activated charcoal (SuperChar) has been recommended for therapeutic use against poisoning by several toxic agents, but it has not been tested against microcystin-LR toxicosis. Microcystin-LR, a cyclic heptapeptide isolated from fresh water blue-green algae, has been shown to be a potent hepatotoxin in animals and in man. Studies were performed to determine the degree of in vitro adsorption of m...متن کامل
BACKGROUND/AIM Cyanobacterial toxins befall a group of various compounds according to chemical structure and health effects on people and animals. The most significant in this large group of compounds are microcystins. Their presence in water used for human consumption causes serious health problems, liver beeing the target organ. Microcystins are spread all over the world. Waterblooms of cyano...
construction and validation of translation metacognitive strategy questionnaire and its application to translation quality
like any other learning activity, translation is a problem solving activity which involves executing parallel cognitive processes. the ability to think about these higher processes, plan, organize, monitor and evaluate the most influential executive cognitive processes is what flavell (1975) called “metacognition” which encompasses raising awareness of mental processes as well as using effectiv...
