چکیده

objective(s) the aim of this study was to formulate and evaluate microencapsulated controlled release preparations of theophylline using ethylcellulose as the retardant material with high entrapment efficiency. materials and methods microspheres were prepared by water-in-oil-in-oil (w/o1/o2) emulsion-solvent diffusion (esd). a mixed solvent system consisting of acetonitrile and dichloromethane in a 1:1 ratio and light liquid paraffin were chosen as primary and secondary oil phases, respectively. in the current study formulations with different drug/polymer ratios were prepared and characterized by drug loading, loading efficiency, scanning electron microscopy (sem), x-ray diffraction (xrd), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ftir) and differential scanning calorimetry (dsc). results the best drug to polymer ratio was 0.5:1 (f2 formulation). f2 formulation showed 29.53% of entrapment, loading efficiency of 88.59%, and mean particle size of 757.01 μm. sem studies showed that the microspheres were spherical. ftir, sem, xrd and dsc showed that drug in the microspheres was stable and revealed crystallinity form. conclusion the results showed that, generally, an increase in the ratio of drug to polymer resulted in a reduction in the release rate of the drug which may be attributed to the hydrophobic nature of the polymer. the release of theophylline was found to be diffusion controlled and was influenced by the drug to polymer ratio, loading efficiency, and particle size. the in vitro release profile could be modified by changing various processing and formulation parameters (as stirring rate, the volume of dispersing medium, and non-solvent concentration) to give a controlled release of drug from the microparticules.

exploring motivation and english test preparation strategies of iranian pre-university candidates during and at the end of test preparation period for konkur examination

the current study aimed at investigating the relationship between motivation and test preparation strategies (tpss) used by iranian pre-university students in their preparation period for the university entrance exam (uee). due to the importance of uee in iran, this study also attempted to show its impact on these two important variables. to this end, 100 pre-university students in an iranian p...

Formulation and evaluation of theophylline sustained release matrix tablet

In the present study sustained release matrix tablets of Theophylline were prepared by direct compression method using different grades and ratios of hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose in presence of ethyl cellulose to examine their influence on tablet properties and drug release profile. Theophylline is used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The drug has a narrow t...

Preparation and Evaluation of Mixture of Eudragit and Ethylcellulose Microparticles Loaded with Ranolazine for Controlled Release

To minimize the unwanted toxic effects of anti-anginal ranolazine by kinetic control of drug release, it was entrapped into gastro-resistant, biodegradable eudragit (EU) and ethyl cellulose (EC) binary blend using phase separation method. Ten formulations were prepared using different polymer blend ratios and solvent. The prepared microparticles were characterized for micromeritic properties, p...

Preparation of Sustained-Release Matrix Tablets of Aspirin with Ethylcellulose, Eudragit RS100 and Eudragit S100 and Studying the Release Profiles and their Sensitivity to Tablet Hardness

A sustained-release tablet formulation should ideally have a proper release profile insensitive to moderate changes in tablet hardness that is usually encountered in manufacturing. In this study, matrix aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) tablets with ethylcellulose (EC), Eudragit RS100 (RS), and Eudragit S100 (S) were prepared by direct compression. The release behaviors were then studied in two co...
