چکیده

This paper describes a technique that enables to generate high order / curvilinear meshes in a robust fashion. Accurate estimates of jacobian bounds are used for deriving an unconstrained optimization procedure. Both 2D and 3D valid high order meshes are presented that demonstrate the efficiency of the new technique.

Towards high-quality, untangled meshes via a force-directed graph embedding approach

High quality meshes are crucial for the solution of partial differential equations (PDEs) via the finite element method (or other PDE solvers). The accuracy of the PDE solution, and the stability and conditioning of the stiffness matrix depend upon the mesh quality. In addition, the mesh must be untangled in order for the finite element method to generate physically valid solutions. Tangled mes...

Automatic Curvilinear Quality Mesh Generation with Smooth Mesh Boundaries of Medical Images

The development of robust high-order finite element methods requires the curvilinear discretization for complex geometries without user intervention. In this work we present a new technique that allows for the automatic construction of high-order curvilinear meshes with two main features: first, the boundary of the mesh is globally smooth, i.e., it satisfies either the C 1 or the C 2 smoothness...

The Generation of Valid Curvilinear Meshes

It is now well-known that a curvilinear discretization of the geometry is most often required to benefit from the computational efficiency of high-order numerical schemes in simulations. In this article, we explain how appropriate curvilinear meshes can be generated. We pay particular attention to the problem of invalid (tangled) mesh parts created by curving the domain boundaries. An efficient...

Untangling of 2D meshes in ALE simulations

A procedure is presented to untangle unstructured 2D meshes containing inverted elements by node repositioning. The inverted elements may result from node movement in Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) simulations of continuum mechanics problems with large shear deformation such as fluid flow and metal forming. Meshes with inverted elements may also be created due to the limitations of mesh ge...

Curvilinear Mesh Generation in 3D

Issues related to curvilinear mesh generation starting from a CAD model are addressed. Curvilinear mesh geometry representation in the context of p-version finite elements and its impact on the validity of curvilinear meshes is discussed. A set of meshing tools is described for generation and modification of curved meshes in three-dimensional space. An iterative algorithm for curved meshing of ...
