چکیده

S ALTZSTEIN,’ AND LANDING ET AL,2 in 1961 described the occurrence of lipid laden histiocytes in spleens examined in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura following splenectomy. These workers suggested that these changes were due to an accumulation of lipids following the ingestion of platelets by the splenic reticuloendothelial system. Similar interpretations have been made by Hill et al, ( 1963 ) . In this study splenic tissue has been obtained following splenectomy in patients with a number of disorders and examined under the electron microscope. In the majority of patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, but not in other instances, platelets have been seen within splenic histiocytes in various stages of digestion. The end result is the production of myelin figures and lipid droplets. These findings support the previous contention that the splenic lipidosis seen in idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura is a direct result of platelet phagocytosis.

Multiple splenic infarctions in a dog with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia: therapeutic implications

Background: Splenic infarction (SI) is a rare clinical entity seldom encountered in veterinary medicine. Its most frequent causes include thromboembolic status, splenomegaly, and cardiac disease. Although thrombotic elements from the circulation provide the most common context for thromboembolic SIs, immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) has not been reported as an underlying...

Pathogenesis of emerging severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus in C57/BL6 mouse model.

The discovery of an emerging viral disease, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), caused by SFTS virus (SFTSV), has prompted the need to understand pathogenesis of SFTSV. We are unique in establishing an infectious model of SFTS in C57/BL6 mice, resulting in hallmark symptoms of thrombocytopenia and leukocytopenia. Viral RNA and histopathological changes were identified in the spl...

Phospholipid accumulation in histiocytes of splenic pulp associated with thrombocytopenic purpura.

CCUMULATION of lipid, presumably phospholipid, in histiocytes of the splenic cords has been seen in association with thrombocytopenic purpura in six patients operated on in Barnes Hospital. At the time that each of the first four were examined, a diagnosis or description of lipid histiocytosis of the spleen was made, but after that the constant association with thrombocytopenic purpura was note...

The role of the human Fc receptor Fc gamma RIIA in the immune clearance of platelets: a transgenic mouse model.

In humans, the Fc receptor for IgG, FcgammaRIIA, is expressed on macrophages and platelets and may play an important role in the pathophysiology of immune-mediated thrombocytopenia. Mice lack the genetic equivalent of human FcgammaRIIA. To better understand the role of FcgammaRIIA in vivo, FcgammaRIIA transgenic mice were generated and characterized. One transgenic mouse line expressed FcgammaR...

Coated Glass Slides TACAS Are Applicable to Heat-Assisted Immunostaining and In Situ Hybridization at the Electron Microscopy Level

We performed pre-embedding electron microscopic study for visualizing the antigen and genome of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) virus in the cytoplasm of macrophages of the human splenic red pulp, both requesting preheating treatment of sections. To pursue this, coated glass slides with unique characteristics are needed. Namely, during staining they must prevent detaching off...
