چکیده

A fundamental study of the stability of hydrogen peroxide-based gels, thickened using cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymers, will be presented. Recent systematic experiments will demonstrate that excellent long-term stability of such gels can be achieved. The study evaluates different types of crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymers (as well as an associative acrylic polymer), several commercial sources of hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen peroxide concentrations and the effect of pH. Resulting viscosities from combinations of these variables will be presented, as well as the effects of accelerated aging on percent active peroxide and viscosity of the thickened peroxide gels. The results of this study will enable the formulator to determine the appropriate polymer and conditions necessary for optimal stability and rheological properties for hydrogen peroxide applications. This study will demonstrate that some cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymers are very compatible and stable with H2O2 and that these polymers do not affect the H2O2 stability under certain conditions. In addition, this study will show that certain cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymers can produce very viscous gels and yield higher viscosities in typical permanent hair color formulas compared to many commercially available products. Because of the excellent compatibility and stability demonstrated, cross-linked acrylic acid polymers are ideal rheological modifiers for hydrogen peroxide-based applications. The performance benefits of using a cross-linked acrylic acid polymer in two-part hair color formulations will be described in detail.

Effect of Gas Mixture H2-N2 on Microstructure and Microhardness of Steel 32CDV13 Nitrided by Plasma

Nitriding treatments of low alloyed steels can be performed only at relatively low temperatures in order to avoid a decrease of corrosion resistance due to nitride layers formation. These conditions promote the formation of the compound layer and diffusion zone, which shows high hardness and good corrosion resistance. In the present paper, the influence of the gas mixture N2-H2 in plasma nitrid...

K-modification based H2 Adaptive Control

Two novel adaptive control laws are presented. The first is based on the use of a tunable stiffness term that provides a frequency dependent filtering effect, smoother transient responses, and time delay robustness in the adaptive system. The second is an H2 approach which extends a recently developed Kalman filter based approach to adaptive control law modification, by providing an optimal tim...

Modification and Application of a Plant Gum as Eco-Friendly Drilling Fluid Additive

To enhance solubility and the performance of a plant gum (from south peach tree of China, SP gum) as a drilling fluid additive, we explored the potential of Modified SP (MSP) gum by modifying it with epichlorohydrin. The modification conditions, such as the mass ratio of  the crosslinking agent, pH and temperature, were optimized and the results show that 56.40 g/100g mass ratio of the cros...

Synthesis of a Multilayer Ceramic Membrane Used for Hydrogen Separation at High Temperature

A multilayer composite ceramic membrane was prepared by depositing a nano-scale layer of SiO2 on top of a modified porous alumina support by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The modification of the support was carried out by adding a graded layer of Al2O3 (γ-alumina phase), using sol-gel method. An optimized temperature of 700 K for intermediate layer calcination was gained by XRD analys...

Optimization of Water Based Drilling Fluid Produced Using Modified Nigerian Bentonite and Natural Biopolymers: Reduced experiment and Response Surface Methodology

Research has shown that many Bentonite in Nigeria are unsuitable for oil well drilling in their natural states. Their modification and blends with some additives could increase the yield and boost their suitability. Many indigenous polymers have become very popular due to environmental friendliness and their ability to modify rheology of clay suspension. However, the common natural polymers are...

Rheology of Hydrophobically Associating Polymers for Oilfield Applications

Water-soluble hydrophobically associating polymers are examined with particular emphasis on their rheology for oilfield applications. The incorporation of a small amount (less than 1 mol%) of hydrophobic groups into the polymer backbone of a water-soluble polymer dramatically alters the rheological properties of the resulting material. Associating polymers have potential for use in mobility con...
