چکیده

Salmonella enterica is a common cause of human food borne gastroenteritis and bacteremia worldwide. Salmonellosis is caused by different serotypes of salmonella; humans and animals are generally infected with these bacteria by the consumption of contaminated food products (1-3). Non-typhi salmonella gastroenteritis in contrast to the invasive salmonellosis that requires prompt antibiotic therapy, is usually self-limited (4). According to the WHO license for the treatment of salmonellosis in last decades, increasing usage of antimicrobial agents in clinics and slaughterhouses is becoming a major problem (5). Chloramphenicol, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, and ampicillin were the earliest antibiotics used the treatment of salmonellosis. However, following the development of resistance to the aforementioned drugs, quinolones and cephalosporines are currently in use (6). The usage of quinolones and cephalosporines in the veterinary world as the therapeutic agents or growth factors led to the emergence of highly resistant veterinary Salmonella strains which might transfer into human via the food chain process. This transmission will cause failure in clinical treatment of related diseases (7, 8). Frequency of antimicrobial resistance found among isolates from human is directly linked to

Salmonella enterica serotypes are one of the most important food borne pathogens and significant public health concerns around the world in humans and other animal species. A total of eighty three epidemiologically unrelated clinical isolates of Salmonella enterica serovars were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Eleven isolates (13.1%) which were resistant to at least 4 groups ...

Typhoidal Salmonella and Emerging Resistance in Outbreak Proportions

Introduction: Typhoidal Salmonella causes an invasive infection resulting in 200 000 deaths among 20 million patients annually. Typhoid remains a public health problem in Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Africa, and South America. Traveler’s diarrhea caused by Salmonella is common in Asia. Outbreaks of typhoidal Salmonella resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and t...

Occurrence of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis isolates from poultry in Iran

Salmonella enterica is recognized as one of the major food-borne pathogens with more than 2,500 serotypesworldwide. The present study addresses antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidisisolates in Iran. A collection of 151 Salmonella spp. isolates collected from poultry were serotyped toidentify Salmonella Enteritidis. Sixty-one Salmonella Enteritidis were subsequently...

Detection of Zoonotic Antibiotic Resistant Salmonella spp. Carrying Virulence Genes in Rural Mus musculus, Golestan Province, North of Iran

Background and aims: Salmonella spp. infect cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals and maycause a worldwide zoonotic disease, salmonellosis, in infected animals. Rodents can be Salmonellacarriers without any signs of salmonellosis. The frequency of salmonella contamination, the presence ofvirulence genes (SpvR and SpvB) and antibiotic resistance pattern of isolated Salmonella w...
