چکیده

Time-frequency analysis, and, in particular, Wigner analysis, is applied to the study of picosecond pulse propagation through optical fibers in both the linear and nonlinear regimes. The effects of firstand second-order group velocity dispersion (GVD) and self-phase modulation (SPM) are first analyzed separately. The phenomena resulting from the interplay between GVD and SPM in fibers (e.g., soliton formation or optical wave breaking) are also investigated in detail. Wigner analysis is demonstrated to be an extremely powerful tool for investigating pulse propagation dynamics in nonlinear dispersive systems (e.g., optical fibers), providing a clearer and deeper insight into the physical phenomena that determine the behavior of these systems.

Phase analysis of nonlinear femtosecond pulse propagation and self-frequency shift in optical fibers

Phase sensitive analysis of femtosecond pulse propagation in optical fibers employing frequency resolved optical gating (FROG) is presented and compared to numerical simulations employing a modified cubic nonlinear Schr€ odinger equation (NLSE). Phase information obtained from deconvolution of the experimental traces allows the observation and characterization of specific pulse propagation feat...

Statistical description of short pulses in long optical fibers: effects of nonlocality.

We present a statistical description of the propagation of short pulses in long optical fibers, taking into account the Kerr and nonlocal nonlinearities on an equal footing. We use the Wigner approach on the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation to obtain a wave kinetic equation and a nonlinear dispersion relation. The latter shows that the optical pulse decoherence reduces the growth rate of...

Unique Solution of Short Pulse Propagation in Nonlinear Fiber Bragg Grating

In this study, a new numerical method is introduced to obtain the exact shape of output pulse in the chalcogenide fiber Bragg grating (FBG). A Gaussian pulse shape with 173 ps width is used as an input pulse for lunching to a 6.6 mm nonlinear FBG. Because of bistable and hysteresis nature of nonlinear FBG the time sequence of each portion of pulse is affected the shape of output pulse. So we di...

Collective variable theory for optical solitons in fibers.

We present a projection-operator method to express the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation for pulse propagation in optical fibers, in terms of the pulse parameters, called collective variables, such as the pulse width, amplitude, chirp, and frequency. The collective variable (CV) equations of motion are derived by imposing a set of constraints on the CVs to minimize the soliton dressing...

Generation of 20-GHz picosecond pulse trains in the normal and anomalous dispersion regimes of optical fibers

In this paper, we numerically and experimentally study two methods to generate 20GHz pulse trains at 1550 nm from a dual-frequency beat-signal. The first method is based on the multiple four-wave mixing temporal compression occuring in the anomalous dispersion regime of a standard optical fiber (SMF). In the second original method, the initial sinusoidal signal is first converted into a parabol...
