Pricing in Computer Networks : Motivation

چکیده
We study the role of pricing policies in multiple service class networks. We rst argue that some form of service-class sensitive pricing is required in order for any multiclass service discipline to have the desired eeect. Borrowing heavily from the Nash implementation paradigm in economics, we then present an abstract formulation of service disciplines and pricing policies. This formulation allows us to describe more clearly the interplay between service disciplines and pricing policies. EEective multiclass service disciplines allow networks to focus resources on the performance sensitive applications, while eeective pricing policies allow us to spread the beneets of multiple service classes around to all users, rather than just having these beneets remain exclusively with the users of applications that are performance sensitive. Finally, we illustrate some of these concepts through simulation of several simple example networks. In our simulations, we nd that it is possible to set the prices so that users of every application type are more satissed with the combined cost and performance of a network with service-class sensitive prices. For some application types the performance penalty received for requesting a less-than-optimal service class is ooset by the reduced price of the service. For the other application types the monetary penalty incurred by using the more expensive, higher-quality service classes is ooset by the improved performance they receive. 4

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks
Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...
متن کاملThe Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks
With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have many applications in the areas of commercial, military and environmental requirements. Regarding the deployment of low cost sensor nodes with restricted energy resources, these networks face a lot of security challenges. A basic approach for preparing a secure wireless communication in WSNs, is to propose an efficient cryptographic key management protocol be...

The significant penetration rate of wind turbines in power systems made some challenges in the operation of the systems such as large-scale power fluctuations induced by wind farms. Gas-fired plants with fast starting ability and high ramping can better handle natural uncertainties of wind power compared to other traditional plants. Therefore, the integration of electrical and natural gas syste...
متن کاملIntroducing a New Method for Multiarea Transmission Networks Loss Allocation
Transmission loss allocation in very large networks with multiple interconnected areas or countries is investigated in this paper. The main contribution is to propose a method to calculate the amount of losses due to activity of each participant in the multi area markets. Pricing of cross-border trades in Multi area systems is often difficult since individual countries may use incompatible ...
