Intermediate TEE

چکیده

Over 56,000 aortic valves are replaced annually in the United States, making AS the second most common reason for heart surgery, behind only coronary artery disease. The intraoperative echocardiographer plays a part in confirming the diagnosis of AS, quantifying its severity, and ensuring proper prosthetic valve function postoperatively. However, the aortic valve is only one component of the aortic root / ascending aorta complex. While measurements of these structures are often taken to assist in valve sizing, their impact on surgical decision making is often underappreciated. In particular, aortic dilatation may increase the risk of dissection in AS patients. Conversely, aortas that are too small in size may require surgical manipulation to accommodate a prosthetic valve. Both of these scenarios will be considered.

Diagnostic value of harmonic transthoracic echocardiography in native valve infective endocarditis: comparison with transesophageal echocardiography

BACKGROUND Although echocardiography has been incorporated into the diagnostic algorithm of patients with suspected infective endocarditis (IE), systematic usage in clinical practice remains ill defined. To determine the diagnostic accuracy of detecting vegetations using harmonic transthoracic echocardiography (hTTE) as compared to transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients with an inte...

Aortic annular sizing for transcatheter aortic valve replacement using cross-sectional 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography.

OBJECTIVES This study compared cross-sectional three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to two-dimensional (2D) TEE as methods for predicting aortic regurgitation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). BACKGROUND Data have shown that TAVR sizing using cross-sectional contrast computed tomography (CT) parameters is superior to 2D-TEE for the prediction of par...

Thrombotic complications of myeloma therapy.

Patients with multiple myeloma are at relatively high baseline risk of developing thromboembolic events (TEE), usually deep vein thromboses. There are numerous contributing factors, among them certain treatment regimens that include thalidomide or related compounds such as lenalidomide combined with glucocorticoids and/or cytotoxic chemotherapy. The risk of developing TEE appears to be particul...

Evaluation of transesophageal echocardiography in detecting cardiac sources of emboli in ischemic stroke patients

Background: Embolus is one of the causes of ischemic stroke that can be due to cardiac sources such as valvular heart diseases and atrial fibrillation and atheroma of the aorta. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is superior in identifying potential cardiac sources of emboli. Due to insufficient data on TEE findings in ischemic stroke in Iran, the present study was done to evaluate TEE in...

The CHA2DS2-VASc Score as a Predictor of Left Atrial Thrombus in Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation

OBJECTIVE To investigate whether or not the CHA2DS2-VASc score predicts left atrial (LA) thrombus detected on pre-cardioversion transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE). MATERIALS AND METHODS The medical records of patients who had undergone TEE were reviewed to assess the presence of LA thrombus prior to direct-current cardioversion for atrial fibrillation (AF). The CHA2DS2-VASc score was cal...
