Multi-modal Multi-threaded Online Forums
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper motivates and outlines multi-modal multi-threaded online forums. The basic idea is that rather than a single “reply” mode as in current multi-threaded online forums, where the user can only indicate that a current input statement is a reply to an existing statement, the user can select from a menu among a range of ways the input statement relates to a particular existing statement. For example, in the menu might be “contradicts”, “is premise of”, “is conclusion of”, or “is an exception to” relations. From such choices, one can construct an “argument dialogue”. The input statements are parsed and semantically interpreted by the Attempto Controlled Language, ensuring grammatically well-formed statements with first order logic representations. The database of propositions and their relations can be used by further systems.

Collaborative Learning Using VoiceThread in an Online Graduate Course
Collaborative learning enables participants in a learning community to externalize and share knowledge, experiences, and practice. However, collaborative learning in an online environment can be challenging due to the lack of face-to face interaction. This current study examined twenty graduate students’ experiences of using VoiceThread for a collaborative activity in an entirely online course ...
متن کاملReconstruction of Threaded Conversations in Online Discussion Forums
Online discussion boards, or Internet forums, are a significant part of the Internet. People use Internet forums to post questions, provide advice and participate in discussions. These online conversations are represented as threads, and the conversation trees within these threads are important in understanding the behaviour of online users. Unfortunately, the reply structures of these threads ...
متن کاملModel-Checking Secure Information Flow for Multi-threaded Programs
This paper shows how secure information flow properties of multi-threaded programs can be verified by model checking in a precise and efficient way, by using the idea of self-composition. It discusses two properties that aim to capture secure information flow for multi-threaded programs, and it shows how these properties can be characterised in modal μ-calculus. For this characterisation, a sel...
متن کاملAdding Multi-Threaded Decoding to Moses
The phrase-based translation system Moses has been extended to take advantage of multicore systems by using multi-threaded decoding. This paper describes how these extensions were implemented and how they can be used, as well as offering some experimental measurements of the potential speed-ups available. Details are also provided of how themulti-threaded Moses library is used to create the Mos...
متن کاملA Framework for Enriched, Controlled On-line Discussion Forums for e-Government Policy-making∗
The paper motivates and proposes a framework for enriched on-line discussion forums for e-government policy-making, where pro and con statements for positions are structured, recorded, represented, and evaluated. The framework builds on current technologies for multi-threaded discussion lists by integrating modes, natural language processing, ontologies, and formal argumentation frameworks. Wit...
