چکیده
Associate Profe ssor of M echanical Engineering, California Institute of Technology, Pasad e na , Calif. Assoc. Mem. ASME A free-streamline flow through a cascade of semi-infinite flat plates is taken as a simplified model of the cavitation process in a helical inducer pump. The length and thickness of the resulting cavity is determined as a f unction of blade geometry and cavitation parameter. Loss coefficients resulting from the cavitation are estimated and representative cavity shapes are calculated to aid in designing the leading edge shape of the blades.

Modal analysis of a turbo-pump shaft: An innovative suspending method to improve the results
Modal parameter extraction of high speed shafts is of critical importance in mechanical design of turbo-pumps. Due to the complex geometry and peripheral components of turbo-pumps, difficulties can arise in determination of modal parameters. In this study, modal properties of a turbo-pump shaft, was studied by experimental modal analysis, and using different excitation techniques. An innovative...
متن کاملCavitation in Reciprocating Positive Displacement Pumps
Owing to their impressive properties reciprocating positive displacement pumps are used in many applications. Pumping fluids at high delivery pressures and metering are the areas of frequent use. The design of reciprocating pumps requires an exact knowledge of the appearing phenomena such as unacceptable pipeline pulsation and harmful cavitation. But cavitation in reciprocating positive displac...
متن کاملBackflow Vortex Cavitation and Its Effects on Cavitation Instabilities
Cavitation instabilities in turbo-machinery such as cavitation surge and rotating cavitation are usually explained by the quasi-steady characteristics of cavitation, mass flow gain factor and cavitation compliance. However, there are certain cases when it is required to take account of unsteady characteristics. As an example of such cases, cavitation surge in industrial centrifugal pump caused ...
متن کاملFlow Instabilities in Cavitating and Non-Cavitating Pumps
It is well known that flow instabilities called rotating stall and surge may occur in non-cavitating turbomachines at flow rates smaller than design. Rotating stall is a local instability at the turbomachinery which is basically not dependent on the hydraulic system in which the turbomachine is installed. The stalled region rotates faster than impeller. Surge is a system instability in a hydrau...
متن کاملDetecting Cavitation in a Vertical Sea water Centrifugal Lift Pump Related to Iran Oil Industry Cooling Water Circulation System
Cavitation is one of the most well-known process faults that may occur in different industrial equipment especially centrifugal pumps. Cavitation also may happen in water pumps and turbines. Sometimes cavitation has been severe enough to wear holes in the impeller and damage the vanes to such a degree that the impeller becomes very ineffective. More commonly, the pump efficiency will decrease s...
