Modification of Yeast Ribosomal Proteins
نویسنده
چکیده
Two-dimensional polyacrylamide-gel electrophoretic analysis of yeast ribosomal proteins uniformly labelled in vivo with [methyl-3H]methionine and [1-'4C]methionine revealed that four ribosomal proteins are methylated, i.e. proteins S31, S32, L15 and L41. Lysine and arginine appear to be the predominant acceptors of the methyl groups. The degree of methylation ranges from 0.09 to 0.20 methyl group per modified ribosomal protein species.

Initiation of Ageing Process by Meiotic and Mitotic Recombination within the Ribosomal DNA Genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
In the budding yeast of Saccharomyces cerevisiae the tandem repeated of rDNA genes are located onchromosome XII, which is in the nucleolus. There are different types of proteins in the nucleoluskeleton, silencing proteins have got important role in nucleolus. It is shown that meiotic recombination between nonsister chromatids in the rDNA genes are stronglysuppressed, and s...
متن کاملProtein kinases CKI and CKII are implicated in modification of ribosomal proteins of the yeast Trichosporon cutaneum.
Phosphorylation of acidic ribosomal proteins P1/P2-P0 is a common phenomenon in eukaryotic organisms. It was found previously that in Trichosporon cutaneum, unlike in other yeast species, in addition to the two acidic ribosomal proteins, two other proteins of 15 kDa and 19 kDa of the small ribosomal subunit were phosphorylated. Here we describe two protein kinases: CKI and CKII, which are engag...
متن کاملA novel RNA-binding motif in omnipotent suppressors of translation termination, ribosomal proteins and a ribosome modification enzyme?
Using computer methods for database search, multiple alignment, protein sequence motif analysis and secondary structure prediction, a putative new RNA-binding motif was identified. The novel motif is conserved in yeast omnipotent translation termination suppressor SUP1, the related DOM34 protein and its pseudogene homologue; three groups of eukaryotic and archaeal ribosomal proteins, namely L30...
متن کاملEukaryotic rRNA Modification by Yeast 5-Methylcytosine-Methyltransferases and Human Proliferation-Associated Antigen p120
Modified nucleotide 5-methylcytosine (m5C) is frequently present in various eukaryotic RNAs, including tRNAs, rRNAs and in other non-coding RNAs, as well as in mRNAs. RNA:m5C-methyltranferases (MTases) Nop2 from S. cerevisiae and human proliferation-associated nucleolar antigen p120 are both members of a protein family called Nop2/NSUN/NOL1. Protein p120 is well-known as a tumor marker which is...
متن کاملRibosome biogenesis in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Ribosomes are highly conserved ribonucleoprotein nanomachines that translate information in the genome to create the proteome in all cells. In yeast these complex particles contain four RNAs (>5400 nucleotides) and 79 different proteins. During the past 25 years, studies in yeast have led the way to understanding how these molecules are assembled into ribosomes in vivo. Assembly begins with tra...
