چکیده

Introduction Thioredoxin (Trx) is an endogenous multifunctional protein with a redox-active disulfide/dithiol within the conserved active site sequence: -Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys[1]. Trx is also a stress-inducible protein whose expression is enhanced by various types of stresses, e.g., viral infection, exposure to UV light, x-ray irradiation, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) [2]. Furthermore, Trx is a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and recombinant Trx has protective activity against ROS-mediated cytotoxicity [3]. We have previously reported that Trx attenuates an ischemic brain damage by scavenging radicals [4].

Methylprednisolone prevents bacterial translocation in thioacetamide-induced liver failure in rats.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Steroids have been shown to prevent intestinal oxidative stress. We investigated the effects of methylprednisolone on intestinal oxidative damage and bacterial translocation in thioacetamide-induced liver failure in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Group 1 (n=8) was the control group. In group 2 (n=8), the thioacetamide group, rats received 300 mg/kg intraperitoneal thioacetamide d...

Molecular and Cellular Pathobiology p38a Inhibits Liver Fibrogenesis and Consequent Hepatocarcinogenesis by Curtailing Accumulation of Reactive Oxygen Species

Most hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) develop in the context of severe liver fibrosis and cirrhosis caused by chronic liver inflammation, which also results in accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we examined whether the stress-activated protein kinase p38a (Mapk14) controls ROS metabolism and development of fibrosis and cancer in mice given thioacetamide to induce chron...

Attenuation of acute and chronic liver injury in rats by iron-deficient diet.

Oxidative stress due to iron deposition in hepatocytes or Kupffer cells contributes to the initiation and perpetuation of liver injury. The aim of this study was to clarify the association between dietary iron and liver injuries in rats. Liver injury was initiated by the administration of thioacetamide or ligation of the common bile duct in rats fed a control diet (CD) or iron-deficient diet (I...

The use of synthetic analogues of Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) and soluble receptor of tumor necrosis factor to prevent acute and chronic experimental liver injury.

In chronic viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, and some chronic cholestatic liver diseases, T-lymphocytes serve as effector cells of the immunostimulatory processes. Cellular interactions of immune cells with extracellular matrix (ECM) components are regulated primarily via the beta 1 subfamily of integrin receptors. The target epitope of several such integrin receptors is the Arg-Gly-Asp (R...

Acute and Chronic Toxicity of Thioacteamide and Alterations in Blood Cell Indices in Rats

Background: Thioacetamide (TAA) has been used extensively in the development of suitable animal models of acute and chronic liver injury employing various doses, times and routes of its administration, particularly in drinking water due to its resemblance with human liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare hematological alteration during the acute and c...
