چکیده

Biodegradation of xenobiotic compounds is examined with s-triazines as an example and with biological treatment of wastewater containing striazines as an aim. s-Triazines have been termed recalcitrant, but examination of the literature indicates that a potential for biodegradation exists. Ni t rogenl imi ted enr ichment cultures yield organisms able to degrade by-products of the industrial synthesis of s-triazine herbicides as sources of nitrogen. The choice of inoculum for these enrichments is important and often allows for successful enrichment after simple batch culture, but organisms containing several degradative reactions could be obtained only after selection in extended culture. Routine, specific determinations of all s-triazines (by HPLC) were essential throughout the work. Molar growth yields show complete mass balances for the utilization of s-triazines. Kinetic experiments indicate that specific degradation rates of s-triazines in growing cells are about 0.4 m k a t / k g of protein. Characterised biochemical pathways consist of a series of hydrolytic cleavages of chloro-, aminoand alkylaminogroups from the s-triazine ring. Pathways con-

Enzymatic degradation of chlorodiamino-s-triazine.

2-Chloro-4,6-diamino-s-triazine (CAAT) is a metabolite of atrazine biodegradation in soils. Atrazine chlorohydrolase (AtzA) catalyzes the dechlorination of atrazine but is unreactive with CAAT. In this study, melamine deaminase (TriA), which is 98% identical to AtzA, catalyzed deamination of CAAT to produce 2-chloro-4-amino-6-hydroxy-s-triazine (CAOT). CAOT underwent dechlorination via hydroxya...

Characterization of metabolites during biodegradation of hexahydro-1, 3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) with municipal anaerobic sludge.

The biodegradation of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) in liquid cultures with municipal anaerobic sludge showed that at least two degradation routes were involved in the disappearance of the cyclic nitramine. In one route, RDX was reduced to give the familiar nitroso derivatives hexahydro-1-nitroso-3,5-dinitro-1,3, 5-triazine (MNX) and hexahydro-1,3-dinitroso-5-nitro-1,3,5-triazin...

An Investigation on the Bioavailability of SBR Bioreactor Enzyme Inhibitor Induced with Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract Background & aim: S-triazine, is one of the most widely used herbicides of estrazines, and             S-triazine, contains of atrazine, amtryn and prom ether. S-triazine is one of the most stable herbicides that pollute water resources.  This material is used for controlling broad-leaved weeds and corn. The purpose of this study was to determine the bioavailability of SBR bioreactor e...

Atrazine biodegradation in the lab and in the field: enzymatic activities and gene regulation

Atrazine is an herbicide of the s-triazine family that is used primarily as a nitrogen source by degrading microorganisms. While many catabolic pathways for xenobiotics are subjected to catabolic repression by preferential carbon sources, atrazine utilization is repressed in the presence of preferential nitrogen sources. This phenomenon appears to restrict atrazine elimination in nitrogen-ferti...
