چکیده

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has gained great popularity in environmental performance measurement because it can provide a synthetic standardized environmental performance index when pollutants are suitably incorporated into the traditional DEA framework. Past studies about the application of DEA to environmental performance measurement often follow the concept of radial efficiency measures. In this paper, we present a non-radial DEA approach to measuring environmental performance, which consists of a non-radial DEA-based model for multilateral environmental performance comparisons and a non-radial Malmquist environmental performance index for modeling the change of environmental performance over time. A case study of OECD countries using the proposed non-radial DEA approach is also presented. It is found that the environmental performance of OECD countries as a whole has been improved from 1995 to 1997. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Measuring environmental performance in China's industrial sectors with non-radial DEA

This paper proposes a non-radial DEA approach consisting of both a static and a dynamic environmental performance index (EPI) for measuring environmental performance. The static EPI is defined as the ratio of a non-radial efficiencymeasure for reducing undesirable outputs to that for increasing desirable outputs. The proposed non-radial DEA approach has been applied to model the environmental p...

Measuring Performance, Estimating Most Productive Scale Size, and Benchmarking of Hospitals Using DEA Approach: A Case Study in Iran

Background and Objectives: The goal of current study is to evaluate the performance of hospitals and their departments. This manuscript aimed at estimation of the most productive scale size (MPSS), returns to scale (RTS), and benchmarking for inefficient hospitals and their departments. Methods: The radial and non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA) ap...

An Integrated Approach for Measuring Performance of Network structure: Case study on power plants

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and balanced scorecard (BSC) are two well-known approaches for measuring performance of decision making units (DMUs). BSC is especially applied with quality measures, whereas, when the quantity measures are used to evaluate, DEA is more appropriate. In the real-world, DMUs usually have complex structures such as network structures. One of the well-known network s...

Network DEA: A Modified Non-radial Approach

DEA is a non-parametric and linear programming based technique that attempts to maximize a decision making unit’s (DMUs) relative efficiency, expressed as a ratio of outputs to inputs, by comparing a particular unit’s efficiency with the performance of a group of similar DMUs that are delivering the same service. The traditional DEA models treat DMUs as black boxes whose internal structure is i...

Measuring energy usage and sustainability development in Asian nations by DEA intermediate approach

This study proposes a new use of data envelopment analysis (DEA) for assessing economic success and environmental protection, so measuring the level of sustainability. The new approach is referred to as “DEA environmental assessment,” and it can measure the performance of various entities that use inputs to produce not only desirable outputs but also undesirable outputs. DEA models are generall...
