چکیده

This paper surveys panel data methods for count dependent variable that takes nonnegative integer values, such as number of doctor visits. The focus is on short panels, as the literature has concentrated on this case. The survey covers both static and dynamic models with random and fixed effects. The paper surveys quasi-ML methods based on the Poisson, as well as richer more parametric models negative binomial models, finite mixture models, hurdle models and with-zeroes models.

Distribution-free Estimation of Some Nonlinear Panel Data Models

The notion of a conditional linear predictor is used as a distributionfree method for eliminating the individual-specific effects in a class of nonlinear, unobserved components panel data models. The methodology is applied to a general count model, which allows for individual dispersion in addition to an individual mean effect. As a corollary of the general results, the multinomial quasi-condit...

A survey on models for panel count data with applications to insurance

In insurance the expected number of claims per year given the observed characteristics of the covered risk is the basis for setting the price of a policy. Companies accumulate information of clients along several years, but in practice the panel data structure is not exploited. We review panel count data models that are useful in this context and present a new alternative based on the generaliz...

Posterior simulation and Bayes factors in panel count data models

This paper is concerned with the problems of posterior simulation and model choice for Poisson panel data models with multiple random effects. Efficient algorithms based on Markov chain Monte Carlo methods for sampling the posterior distribution are developed. A new parameterization of the random effects and fixed effects is proposed and compared with a parameterization in common use, and compu...
