چکیده

There is an urgent need in a wide range of fields such as logistics and supply chain management to develop effective approaches to measure and/or optimally design a network system comprised of a set of units. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) researchers have been developing network DEA models to measure decision making units’ (DMUs’) network systems. However, to our knowledge, there are no previous contributions on the DEA-type models that help DMUs optimally design their network systems. The need to design optimal systems is quite common and is sometimes necessary in practice. This research thus introduces a new type of DEA model termed the optimal system design (OSD) network DEA model to optimally design a DMUs (exogenous and endogenous) input and (endogenous and final) output portfolios in terms of profit maximization given the DMUs total available budget. The resulting optimal network design through the proposed OSD network DEA models is efficient, that is, it lies on the frontier of the corresponding production possibility set. Finding Common Weights in Two-Stage Network DEA

In data envelopment analysis (DEA), mul-tiplier and envelopment CCR models eval-uate the decision-making units (DMUs) under optimal conditions. Therefore, the best prices are allocated to the inputs and outputs. Thus, if a given DMU was not efficient under optimal conditions, it would not be considered efficient by any other models. In the current study, using common weights in DEA, a number of...

A Switchgrass-based Bioethanol Supply Chain Network Design Model under Auto-Regressive Moving Average Demand

Switchgrass is known as one of the best second-generation lignocellulosic biomasses for bioethanol production. Designing efficient switchgrass-based bioethanol supply chain (SBSC) is an essential requirement for commercializing the bioethanol production from switchgrass. This paper presents a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model to design SBSC in which bioethanol demand is under auto-r...

Allocation efficiency in network DEA

The present study is an attempt towards remodeling cost, revenue and profit relationship within the network process. The previous models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) have been too general in their scope and focused on the input and the output within a black box system, therefore they have not been able to measure various phases simultaneously within a network system. By using these mod...

DEA-type models for designing optimal systems and determining optimal budgets

This study intends to develop easy-to-implement and effective approaches to help decision makers cope with the challenges of designing their optimal systems, and determine the corresponding optimal budgets. The approaches are realized by constructing optimal system design (OSD) data envelopment analysis (DEA) models that build on the concepts and techniques of DEA, de novo programming and param...

Non-cooperative two-stage network DEA model: Linear vs. parametric linear

In the data envelopment analysis (DEA) literature, linear fractional non-cooperative network DEA models for two-stage network structures are often transformed into parametric linear models. The transformed parametric linear models are then solved by computing a series of linear models when the parameter is varied. For example, Wu, Zhu, Ji, Chu and Liang (2016) provide a linear fractional non-co...
