Perceptual Image Retrieval Using Eye Movements

چکیده
This paper explores the feasibility of using an eye tracker as an image retrieval interface. A database of image similarity values between 1000 Corel images is used in the study. Results from participants performing image search tasks show that eye tracking data can be used to reach target images in fewer steps than by random selection. The effects of the intrinsic difficulty of finding images and the time allowed for successive selections were also

Retinal image shifts, but not eye movements per se, cause alternations in awareness during binocular rivalry.
Particularly promising studies on visual awareness exploit a generally used perceptual bistability phenomenon, "binocular rivalry"--in which the two eyes' images alternately dominate--because it can dissociate the visual input from the perceptual output. To successfully study awareness, it is crucial to know the extent to which eye movements alter the input. Although there is convincing evidenc...

متن کاملImage Ranking with Eye Movements
In order to help users navigate an image search system, one could provide explicit rank information on a set of images. These rankings are learnt so to present a new set of relevant images. Although, requiring explicit information may not be feasible in some cases, we consider the setting where the user provides implicit feedback, eye movements, to assist in such a task. This paper explores the...
متن کاملTowards brain-activity-controlled information retrieval: Decoding image relevance from MEG signals
We hypothesize that brain activity can be used to control future information retrieval systems. To this end, we conducted a feasibility study on predicting the relevance of visual objects from brain activity. We analyze both magnetoencephalographic (MEG) and gaze signals from nine subjects who were viewing image collages, a subset of which was relevant to a predetermined task. We report three f...
