Arc-WofE: a GIS tool for statistical integration of mineral exploration datasets

Mineral exploration companies increasingly are using GIS technology to combine spatial data and make predictive mineral potential maps. Weights-of-evidence is a discrete multivariate method first applied to this problem by us about 12 years ago (Bonham-Carter et al., 1988). It is easily implemented within a GIS computing environment. Arc-WofE is a new user-friendly computer code for weights-of-evidence in Avenue, developed as an “extension” to the popular Arcview GIS viewing package. In this paper we summarize the method, and present a new approach for modelling the effect of kriging error on the analysis. In the interest of brevity, only some key references are cited here (e.g. Agterberg et al., 1990; Bonham-Carter, 1994). The recent paper by Agterberg and Bonham-Carter (1999) provides a more up-to-date and complete list.
