چکیده
Welcome to the 5th International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGrid 2005), being held in Cardiff, May 9-12, 2005. Cardiff is the capital city of Wales, and also has its centenary this year. It is therefore a particular pleasure to have you in this city at this time. This proceeding contains papers from the main track, the 9 different workshops being organised alongside CCGrid 2005, and short papers that are being presented as part of the poster session. This year we received 235 submissions in total (for the main track), with each submission being reviewed by two or more referees. Papers were received from across the world, and referees were also selected from all over the world. With the emerging interest in Cluster and Grid computing, it is very encouraging to see that papers covered both application and infrastructure themes. The grouping of papers into sessions attempts to reflect this, although inevitably some papers cover multiple areas. Workshops being organised alongside CCGrid 2005 also feature peer-reviewed papers, with the review process conducted by the chair(s) of the appropriate workshop. Such workshops continue to play an important part in the conference, this year covering a variety of themes ranging from Infrastructure (such as security, semantics, distributed shared memory, networking, and "performability" (an interesting combination of performance and dependability)), and applications (such as education, biosciences, and economics). The Grid-P2P workshop continues to be a popular event at CCGrid, and attracted the highest number of submissions amongst all the workshops. I am grateful to all the workshop organizers for their excellent efforts in soliciting papers, undertaking the review process, and returning the final versions according to schedule. I am very grateful to Craig Lee (workshops chair) for his significant effort in soliciting suitable workshops, and in co-ordinating the selection of workshops. This year features the first "Work in Progress" (WiP) session alongside CCGrid, thanks primarily to the efforts of Mark Baker and Daniel Katz. Both the WiP and poster sessions provide a useful avenue to present novel and emerging work. Submissions to both the WiP and poster session were also reviewed, and selected based on their relevance to the conference theme, and likely impact the contribution would make on research in cluster and Grid computing. Yan Huang has done an excellent job in selecting the posters, to ensure a balanced session that addresses a variety of different themes of interest. To maintain consistency in quoting your work in the future, and to ensure consistency in biographical referencing, please use " Proceedings of CCGrid
