Microcirculatory Effects of Emulsified Fat Infusions.

چکیده
• The effects of experimental and clinical hyperlipemia on microcirculation have been considered in discussions and hypotheses regarding the causation of fat embolism, the changes of blood lipids after trauma, and the pathophysiological responses to orally or parenterally administered fat emulsions. The mechanism by which fat embolism develops after traumata, especially fractures, has not been conclusively analyzed. While Adler and Peltiersuggested that local fat release from the damaged marrow directly to the circulation is the responsible mechanism, Bergentz in a review postulated that the composition of blood lipids is changed by trauma, leading to microcirculatory disturbances. These are manifested mainly by erythrocyte aggregation.

Intravenous emulsified halogenated anesthetics produce acute and delayed preconditioning against myocardial infarction in rabbits.
BACKGROUND Preconditioning against myocardial infarction by volatile anesthetics is well known. The authors tested the hypothesis that new emulsified formulations of halogenated anesthetics administered intravenously reduce myocardial infarct size when administered either 1 or 24 h before prolonged ischemia and reperfusion. METHODS Pentobarbital-anesthetized rabbits (n = 39) were instrumented...

• After a fatty meal, plasma lipemia, as measured by increase in optical density in a colorimeter, is significantly greater throughout the period of absorption in patients with ischemic heart disease than in control subjects.' " The extent of the lipemia depends on contemporary processes of absorption and fat clearance. The rate of absorption depends on such factors as gastric emptying and the ...
متن کاملModulating absorption and postprandial handling of dietary fatty acids by structuring fat in the meal: a randomized crossover clinical trial.
BACKGROUND Prolonged postprandial hypertriglyceridemia is a potential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. In the context of obesity, this is associated with a chronic imbalance of lipid partitioning oriented toward storage and not toward β-oxidation. OBJECTIVE We tested the hypothesis that the physical structure of fat in a meal can modify the absorption, chylomicron transport, and furth...
متن کاملEffects of intraduodenal glucose, fat, and protein on blood pressure, heart rate, and splanchnic blood flow in healthy older subjects.
BACKGROUND Postprandial hypotension frequently occurs in the elderly. The hypotensive response to a meal is triggered by the interaction of nutrients with the small intestine; information relating to the effects of different macronutrients on blood pressure (BP) is limited and inconsistent. OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to determine the effects of intraduodenal glucose, fat, and pr...
متن کاملOrigin and transport of the A-I and arginine-rich apolipoproteins in mesenteric lymph of rats.
Transport of apolipoprotein A-I and argininerich apolipoprotein in mesenteric lymph was examined in rats given constant intraduodenal infusions of saline, glucose in saline, or emulsified fat. Lymph flow in all groups was constant from 5 to 50 hr after beginning the infusions. Lymphatic transport of triglycerides was about 20-fold greater and transport of apoprotein A-I was about twofold greate...
