Camera Calibration without Feature Extraction

چکیده
This paper presents an original approach to the problem of camera calibration using a calibration pattern. It consists of directly searching for the camera parameters that best project three-dimensional points of a calibration pattern onto intensity edges in an image of this pattern, without explicitly extracting the edges. Based on a characterization of image edges as maxima of the intensity gradient or zero-crossings of the Laplacian, we express the whole calibration process as a one-stage optimization problem. A classical iterative optimization technique is used in order to solve it. Contrary to classical calibration techniques which involve two consecutive stages (extraction of image features and computation of the camera parameters), our approach does not require any customized feature extraction code. As a consequence, it can be directly used with any calibration pattern that produces image edges, and it is also more robust. First, we describe the details of the approach. Then, we show some experiments in which two implementations of our approach and two classical two-stage approaches are compared. Tests on real and synthetic data allow us characterizing our approach in terms of convergence, sensitivity to the initial conditions, reliability, and accuracy. A Novel Stratified Self-calibration Method of Camera Based on Rotation Movement
This paper proposes a novel stratified selfcalibration method of camera based on rotation movement. The proposed method firstly captures more than three images of the same scene in the case of constant internal parameters by panning and rotating the camera with small relative rotation angles among the captured images. After feature extraction and matching of captured images, the pixel coordinat...
متن کاملEasy–to–Use Calibration of Multiple–Camera Setups
Calibration of the pinhole camera model has a well–established theory, especially in the presence of a known calibration object. Unfortunately, in wide-base multi–camera setups, it is hard to create a calibration object, which is visible by all the cameras simultaneously. This results in the fact that conventional calibration methods do not scale well. Using well-known algorithms, we developed ...

In the vision 3-D measurement field, camera calibration results directly affect the accuracy of measurement. So camera calibration method is hot spot in this field. This paper proposes a new efficient calibration method with binocular camera. First, the method uses an accurate extraction algorithm to extract the ellipse center of calibration target image. Second, the paper presents a automatic ...
متن کامل3D reconstruction from uncalibrated images
This thesis will show in theory and in practice how to implement a 3D reconstruction algorithm. It is possible, using only images as input and allowing general camera motion and varying camera parameters, to reconstruct a scene up to an unknown scale factor. Feature extraction and matching, epipolar configuration (fundamental matrix), projective reconstruction and self-calibration are the main ...
متن کاملAutomatic 3D Reconstruction of Urban Areas, by using Epipolar Geometry and Template Matching
\ Abstract In this work we describe a novel technique for automatic 3D reconstruction of urban areas, from airborne stereo-pair images whose output is VRML. The main challenge is to compute the relevant information building’s height, roof’s description and texture – algorithmically, since it is very time consuming and thus expensive to produce it manually for large urban areas. The algorithm re...
