Abstract:

SUMMARY: The mitral valve prolapse syndrome (MVPS) is a common cardiac disorder, occurring in five percent of general population. An association has been claimed between MVPS and psychiatry disorders. In this study 648 patients (mean age 32.2 years, 411 female .237 male subjects) with echocardiographically confirmed MVPS were tested for psychiatry disorders, and compared with 660 control groups (mean age 33.3 years,470 female, 190 male subjects), collectively, 559 (86.3 percent) of 648 MVPS had psychiatry disorders: generalized anxiety disorder -331, dysthemic disorder 11, panic 76, simple phobia 15, agoraphobia 11, social phobia 9, obssesive neurosis 5 and hypochondriac neurosis 1 subject. 334 (50.6 Percent) of 660 control (general population) subjects had psychiatry disorders: dysthemic disorder 115, panic 50. generalize danxiety disorders 49, social phobia 48, simple phobia 30,obssesive neurosis 24, agoraphobia 15 and hypochondriac neurosis 3 subjects. Our results corroborate the contention that the prevalence of psychiatry disorders in patients with MVPS is significantly different from that of control (general population) subjects. We conclude that the role of MVPS in the etiology of psychiatry disorders is as yet not completely determined. We would urge that all patients with this syndrome should be afforded not only a complete cardiac evaluation, but in addition a careful investigation of emotional factors in their life situation.

ABSTRACT: Mitral Valve Prolapse (WVP) in one of the commonest cardiac abnormalities. Echocardiography has generally been accepted as the diagnostic modality of choice, To assess the characteristic symptoms signs and electrocardiographic abnormalities of MVP results of prospective 500 age and sex matched healthy subjects without echocardiographic MVP (control subjects). Marcus-gunn phenomenon with- mitral valve prolapse

Marcus-gunn phenomenon is a congenital and sometimes hereditary anomaly, in which a ptotic eyelid retracts momentarily when the mouth is open, or the jaw is moved. These associated movements attributed to abnormal connections between the central mechanisms innervating the pterygoid and elevator muscles. Sometimes this anomaly is associated with dual,s retraction syndrome, duplex kindneys and ur...

[Mitral valve prolapse syndrome].

DACOSTA DESCRIBED "IRRITABLE HEART" in 1871,1 a peculiar form of functional disorder of the heart seen in the military population during the War Between the States. He thought this disorder was similar to that described earlier among British troops in India and in the Crimean War. The disorder frequently presented either after an episode of diarrhea and persisted after the digestive disturbance...

Arrhythmias in Patients with Mitral Valve Prolapse

Resting ECGs, exercise treadmill tests and 24-hour ambulatory ECGs were recorded and analyzed in 24 unselected patients with mitral valve prolapse. Arrhythmias were frequent. There were three distinct groups of patients, defined on the basis of total number of premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) during the 24 hours: there were no PVCs in 25%, infrequent PVCs in 25%, and frequent PVCs in 5...

Arrhythmias in patients with mitral valve prolapse.

The aim of the study was to analyse rhythm disturbances in 92 patients with mitral valve prolapse syndrome (52 women and 40 men). The patients were examined by resting electrocardiograms monitoring, exercise electrocardiogram (submaximal exercise test), phonocardiograms and echocardiograms. We found tachycardia sinusalis in 72 patients (78%), supraventricular premature beats in 23 (25%) and ven...
