چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Patients with diabetes are prone to develop complications related to the retina. So far, several genes have been reported in connection with the progression of retinopathy, and a group of these genes is genes involved in angiogenesis. CXCL12 and CXCR4 genes are among the most important genes in this path, which have been less studied and investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between polymorphism of CXCL12 (rs1801157) and CXCR4 (rs2228014) genes and the risk of proliferative diabetic retinopathy in the population of Yazd City. Methods: In the present case-control study, rs2228014 and rs1801157 polymorphisms were investigated among 103 patients with diabetes in two groups, case and control. In this study, the control group included 49 diabetic patients who did not show retinopathy complications, and the case group consisted of 54 diabetic patients with proliferative retinopathy complications. The Genotyping of rs2228014 polymorphism was examined by ARMS-PCR method and rs1801157 variant by RFLP-PCR technique. The statistical analysis of data was conducted using SPSS software version 16 and chi-square test. Results: Our results represented no association among the rs1801157 and rs2228014 polymorphisms and the risk of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (P>0.05). Conclusion: This study did not confirm association of the rs1801157 and rs2228014 polymorphisms with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and further studies are required to investigate the correlation of polymorphisms of interest with PDR.

head in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy

An anatomical taxonomy for neovascular proliferation of the optic nerve head in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy is presented. The technique consists in comparing (A) number of involved quadrants, (B) calibre of vessels, (C) neovascular density, (D) neovascular area, (E) plane of proliferation, and (F) fluorescein angiographic findings. A similar taxonomy is used to describe fib...

Candidate Genes for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy

Several candidate genes have been so far implicated in the pathogenesis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Since the principal pathogenetic mechanisms for diabetic retinopathy (DR) and PDR are different, the main pathogenetic mechanism in DR is increased vascular permeability, whereas in PDR the crucial pathogenetic mechanisms are fibrosis and neoangio...

Association between diabetic retinopathy and hemoglobin level

Background: Anemia may be considered to be an independent risk factor for the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with renal failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between blood hemoglobin level and retinopathy in diabetic patients with normal renal function tests. Methods: From 2009 to 2011, 1100 diabetic patients underwent retinal examination. Am...

Association of Pro12Ala polymorphism in peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma with proliferative diabetic retinopathy

PURPOSE The association of non-synonymous substitution polymorphism rs1801282 (c.34C>G, p.Pro12Ala) in exon 4 of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma gene with diabetic retinopathy (DR) has been reported inconsistently. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to understand the population-specific role of the Pro12Ala polymorphism in DR susceptibility in Pakistani subject...

Apelin in epiretinal membranes of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy

PURPOSE Formation of epiretinal membranes (ERMs) in the posterior fundus results in visual impairment. ERMs have been associated with numerous clinical conditions, including proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), a neovascular disease. Apelin has been identified as a novel angiogenesis contributor. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between apelin and ERMs after PDR. ...
