Enhancing Tolerance to Salinity Stress in Poncirus trifoliata L. Using Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi

نویسندگان

چکیده مقاله:

Citrus fruits are susceptible to salinity. In the present study, the reaction of trifoliate sour orange (Poncirus  trifoliata L.) to the salinity stress at the presence of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) was investigated. Forty-day-old seedlings were inoculated with three species of AMF in combinations including Glomus mosseae + Glomus intraradices, Glomus mosseae + Glomus hoi, Glomus intraradices + Glomus hoi, Glomus mosseae + Glomus intraradices + Glomus hoi and no fungi “control”. After 175 days of inoculation, seedlings were exposed to 35 and 70 mM NaCl for 45 days. Mycorrhizal inoculation especially with the combination of G. mosseae + G. hoi increased the leaves relative water content as well as the mounts of chlorophyll and osmolites. There was a significant reduction in the amounts of malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide in the leaves in colonized seedlings compared to the controls. The concentrations of Na and Cl in the leaves were higher when salinity increased, while the amounts of N, P, K, Ca and Mg were significantly decreased. On the other hand, inoculation with AMF resulted in a significant increase in the concentrations of N, P, K, Ca, and Mg in colonized seedlings. In general, AMF was able to help the sour orange seedlings against salinity by increasing the leaf nutrient elements and reducing oxidative damage.

Increased Tolerance of Trifoliate Orange (poncirus Trifoliata) Seedlings to Waterlogging after Inoculation with Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi

Growth suppressive role of waterlogging (WL) as an important abiotic stress to perennial plants is well known. A pot experiment was conducted to study a potential contribution of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF, Diversispora spurca) on WL tolerance of trifoliate orange (Poncirustrifoliata L. Raf.) seedlings on the basis of growth, root system architecture, and antioxidant enzymes. Four-month-...

Community Analysis of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in Roots of Poncirus trifoliata and Citrus reticulata Based on SSU rDNA

Morphological observation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) species in rhizospheric soil could not accurately reflect the actual AMF colonizing status in roots, while molecular identification of indigenous AMF colonizing citrus rootstocks at present was rare in China. In our study, community of AMF colonizing trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata L. Raf.) and red tangerine (Citrus reticula...

Influence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi symbiosis with different pistachio rootstocks in salinity stress condition

This study was designed to investigate the effect of Mycorrhiza symbiosis on some orphophysiological characteristics of four different pistachio rootstocks under salinity stress. This research was conducted in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangement with three factors. The factors were included rootstocks at four levels (Badami-e Riz Zarand, Qazvini, Sarakhs, and UCB1), mycorr...

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungus Enhances Lateral Root Formation in Poncirus trifoliata (L.) as Revealed by RNA-Seq Analysis

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) establish symbiosis with most terrestrial plants, and greatly regulate lateral root (LR) formation. Phosphorus (P), sugar, and plant hormones are proposed being involved in this regulation, however, no global evidence regarding these factors is available so far, especially in woody plants. In this study, we inoculated trifoliate orange seedlings (Poncirus trif...

Studies on salt stress tolerance of citrus rootstock genotypes with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

Citrus is grouped under the salt sensitive crops. Mycorrhizal fungi, a symbiotic relationship between plant roots and beneficial fungi, are supposed to impart the stress tolerance in the host plants. The stress tolerance improved due to Arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi (AM fungi) colonization can be attributed to enhanced mineral nutrition. In the present study the efforts are made to evaluate the ...

Tetraploidy Enhances Boron-Excess Tolerance in Carrizo Citrange (Citrus sinensis L. Osb. × Poncirus trifoliata L. Raf.)

UNLABELLED Tetraploidy modifies root anatomy which may lead to differentiated capacity to uptake and transport mineral elements. This work provides insights into physiological and molecular characters involved in boron (B) toxicity responses in diploid (2x) and tetraploid (4x) plants of Carrizo citrange (Citrus sinensis L. Osb. × Poncirus trifoliata L. Raf.), a widely used citrus rootstock. Wit...
