چکیده مقاله:

Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpasteurized milk against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBLs) E.coli. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, E. coli was isolated from nine urinary tract infection samples and was confirmed as broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing by the Kirby-Bauer method. Bacteriophage was isolated from unpasteurized milk samples. Lytic activity of phage was determined by the spot test. Phage titer was calculated using the DLA assay. The phage latent period was detected and phenotype of the phage was determined by electron microscopy. Results: Lytic activity of phage against E.coli was confirmed by the formation of an inhibition zone. The phage titer was 15×1010 PFU/ml. The images of electron microscopy confirmed the phage cocktail belonged to Myoviridae and Podoviridae families. The latent period of bacteriophage was 20 min. Conclusion: Isolated bacteriophage from unpasteurized milk is effective on broad-spectrum beta-lactamase E. coli.

Identification of extended-spectrum β-lactamase genes in Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection

Introduction: Recentlly, resistance to antibiotics has increased and antibiotic-resistant strains producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) have emerged among Enterobacteriaceae, mainly in Escherichia coli (E. coli). In this study we aimed to determine phenotypic and genotypic ESBL production in isolated E. coli from women with urinary tract infection (UTI). Materials and Methods: In...

Screening of Extended Spectrum Beta lactamase Producing Gram Negative Bacilli Isolated from Clinical Cases

Abstract Background and objectives: (ESBL) strain is one of the emerging health related problems in the world recently. Some of the species of the gram-negative bacilli including Klebsiella Pneumonia & Escherichia Coli are well known ESBL producing among bacteria, and they cause uncontrollable infections. This Cross-sectional study was designed to asses the ESBL producing gra...

Comparative possession of Shiga toxin, intimin, enterohaemolysin and major extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) genes in Escherichia coli isolated from backyard and farmed poultry

The present work was conducted to compare the occurrence of Escherichia coli possessing virulence and ESBL genes in backyard and farmed poultry. Three hundred and sixty samples from the poultry kept in backyard system and 120 samples from the farmed birds were collected from West Bengal, India. Among the E. coli isolates of backyard poultry (O2, O10, O25, O55, O60, O106, UT), none of them posse...
