Overexpression of High-Mobility Motor Box 1 in the Blood and Tissues of Patients with Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Introduction: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancers in the world. Extra- and intra-cellular high-mobility motor box 1 (HMGB1) proteins are invovled in the pathogenesis and prognosis of cancer. Regarding this, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the expression of HMGB1 protein and mRNA levels in the blood, tumor tissue, and marginal normal tissue of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC)usingthequantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Materials and Methods: This study was performed on 88 patients with HNSCC, who referred to the otorhinolaryngology and oral pathology departments, affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran, and a group of healthy subjects (i.e., control group) matched in terms of age and gender.RNA was collected from fresh tumor tissues, marginal tissues, and blood, followed by the implementation of quantitative PCR on the specimens.Furthermore, the expression of HMGB1 in tumor and normal margins was evaluated by means of IHC. Thedata were analyzed in SPSS software. Results: According to the results, the expression levels of HMGB1 protein and mRNA were significantly higher in the tumor tissue than in the normal margin tissues (P
Introduction: The presence of HER-2 has been shown to be a prognostic factor in many kinds of cancers, but its role in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is not still defined. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the role of HER-2 in HNSCC and its correlation with various clinicopathologic parameters. Materials and Methods: Peripheral blood samples were obtained ...متن کامل
Evaluation of Tissue Expression and Salivary Levels of HER2/neu in Patients with Head and Neck Squamous cell Carcinoma
Introduction: HER2/neu, a member of the epidermal growth factor receptor family, has been shown to be over-expressed in some tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine the salivary levels and tissue expression of HER2/neu in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and their correlation with clinicopathologic parameters. Materials and Methods: Enzyme-linked immu...متن کامل
Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common head and neck malignancy. Smoking, alcohol consumption, viral infections, exposure, oral hygiene, and dietary, genetic, and occupational factors are the most important etiologic factors. The aim of this study was determining the incidence of etiologic factors in head and neck SCC. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectiona...متن کامل

Background and Aim: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is the second most common skin cancer. Mast cells may play a role in tumor progression and metastasis by increasing angiogenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of mast cells by increasing angiogenesis in invasion of head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional stud...متن کامل
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a large majority of cancers arising from the head and neck, especially the oral cavity. Despite advances in therapy, the five-year survival rate remains low due to the number of patients presenting advanced stages of the disease. The role of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in tumorigenesis in HNSCC remains unexplored. The current ...متن کامل
