We describe a computational model of the development and regeneration of specific eye-brain circuits. The model comprises a self-organizing map-forming network which uses local Hebb rules, constrained by (genetically determined) molecular markers. Various simulations of the development and regeneration of eye-brain maps in fish and frogs are described, in particular successful simulations of ex...

We investigate for which resource states an efficient classical simulation of measurement based quantum computation is possible. We show that the Schmidt–rank width, a measure recently introduced to assess universality of resource states, plays a crucial role in also this context. We relate Schmidt–rank width to the optimal description of states in terms of tree tensor networks and show that an...
Nonpremixed jet flames of dimethyl ether (DME) were studied both experimentally and theoretically to investigate flame liftoff near unity Schmidt number. It was found experimentally that although the DME nonpremixed flames have a Schmidt number larger than unity it cannot be lifted directly by increasing the flow rate. Lifted flames can only be established by igniting the mixture in a narrow re...
Not all tangent space directions play equivalent roles in the local chaotic motions of classical Hamiltonian many-body systems. These directions are numerically represented by basis sets of mutually orthogonal Gram-Schmidt vectors, whose statistical properties may depend on the chosen phase space-time domain of a trajectory. We examine the degree of stability and localization of Gram-Schmidt ve...
In this paper we reply to Binmore and Shaked’s criticism of the Fehr-Schmidt model of inequity aversion. We put the theory and their arguments into perspective and show that their criticism is not substantiated. Finally, we briefly comment on the main challenges for future research on social preferences.
We establish that in the Prisoners’ Dilemma, the model of Daley and Sadowski (2015) is logically distinct from three models that employ well-known forms of otherregarding preferences: altruism (Ledyard, 1995; Levine, 1998), inequity aversion (Fehr and Schmidt, 1999), and reciprocity (Rabin, 1993).
Constructive updating/downdating of oblique projectors: a generalization of the Gram-Schmidt process
A generalization of the Gram-Schmidt procedure is achieved by providing equations for updating and downdating oblique projectors. The work is motivated by the problem of adaptive signal representation outside the orthogonal basis setting. The proposed techniques are shown to be relevant to the problem of discriminating signals produced by different phenomena when the order of the signal model n...
