We investigated the specificity of obtained antisera to beta-methyldigoxin by the enzyme immunoassay. Three types of hapten-bovine serum albumin (BSA) conjugates were synthesized to obtain high specific antisera to beta-methyldigoxin. The haptens were linked to the carrier protein through hemisuccinate at C-3' and C-3'' positions in the digitoxose chain and at C-12 position in the aglycone. Ant...

Rabbit antiserum prepared against an ATPase-containing tryptic fragment of dynein by Ogawa and Mohri (J. Biol. Chem. 250: 6476-6483) specifically inhibited the ATPase activity of dynein 1 and not that of dynein 2. Varying amounts of this antidynein 1 serum were added to demembranated sperm while they were swimming in reactivating solution containing 1 mM ATP. The sperm continued to form regular...

Although the effects of Gonadotropin on ovarian physiology have been known for many decades, its action on glucose uptake in the rat ovary remained poorly understood. Evidence also suggests that glucose uptake is mediated by a number of glucose transporter proteins (Glut). Therefore, we examined the rat ovary for the presence of Glut1-4 and blood glucose level after eCG (equine chorionic gonado...

A convenient and reliable method for serogrouping meningococci, based on immunospecific precipitation haloes in antiserum-agar plates, is described. It gave concordant results with conventional slide-agglutination in 900 strains of groups A, B or C tested. The antiserum-agar can also be used as a primary isolation medium for detecting nasopharyngeal carriers of a certain serogroup if antibiotic...

The inhibitory effect of an antiserum to surface protein P50 of Babesia gibsoni on the growth of the parasite was determined with severe combined immunodeficiency mice given canine red blood cells. The antiserum to the recombinant P50 protein significantly inhibited the parasite growth, indicating that P50 might be a useful vaccine candidate.

Agglutination inhibition immunoassays using antifibrinogen antiserum measure an antigenic determinant of fibrinogen which is located on the fragment D parts of this molecule. This antigenic determinant of fragment D, in contrast to others, does not form an immune precipitate with antifibrinogen antiserum. Upon very extensive hydrolysis by plasmin, this antigenic determinant has a reduced affini...

Follicle deviation is characterized by continued growth of the largest (developing dominant) follicle and reduced growth of the smaller (subordinate) follicles. The aim of the present study was to test the following hypotheses: (1). oestradiol contributes to the depression of circulating FSH encompassing follicle deviation and (2). oestradiol plays a role in the initiation of deviation. Heifers...

Four polypeptides which exhibited apparent molecular weights from 40 000 to 48 000 were isolated from the thylakoid membrane. The isolation was achieved by gel filtration of polypeptides, solubilized by means of sodium dodecyl sulfate and, after removal of detergent by anion exchange chromatography in ethanolic solution. The polypeptide of the molecular weight 40000 was iden tified as the 7-co...

To determine the physiological significance of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) in the control of pituitary hormone secretion, highly specific antibodies directed against the peptide were injected either intravenously or intraventricularly (third ventricle) and the effect on plasma levels of pituitary hormones was determined before and after application of ether stress for 1 min. The intrav...

Thylakoid Membrane, Cytochrome f, Antiserum A monospecific antiserum to cytochrome f agglutinates stroma-free swellable chloroplasts from tobacco and Antirrhinum. Consequently, antigenic determinants towards which the antiserum is directed are located in the outer surface of the thylakoid membrane. The antiserum inhibits linear photosynthetic electron transport. Just as described earlier for th...
