High-energy photon interrogation is a nondestructive technique that used to detect special nuclear materials and characterize waste. The development of such systems complex requires Monte Carlo simulations optimize system performance. rely on various scattering, absorption, photonuclear cross-section data. While the scattering absorption data have been extensively studied validated with experim...
A field study was made to investigate the learning needs of patients with pacemaker in Shahid Rajaii Heart Hospital's out-patient clinic (1994). A total of 60 patients with pacemaker were selected sequentially from the total population that had a pacemaker and attended the out-patient clinic in shahid Rajaii Hospital. The subjects met the criteria for participating in this study. The tool was a...
In radiation therapy with high-energy photon beams (E > 10 MV) neutrons are generated mainly in LINACs head thorough (γ,n) interactions. These neutrons affect the shielding requirements in radiation therapy rooms. According to the AAPMTG-34 report, photon absorbed dose of 10Gy can cause permanent damage to the pacemaker and the dose of 2Gy can make minor changes in the functioning of the pac...
A 76-yr-old man with unipolar ventricular pacemaker, previously implanted in the right ventricular apex, presented with syncopal attack and twitching of the right pectoralis muscle. He finally was diagnosed as having Twiddler's syndrome. The patient had a pulse rate of 36/min and cannon waves in the neck veins. Chest radiography showed a dislodged pacing lead completely wrapped around the pulse...
Pacemaker infection has multiple risk factors. Its presentation is most often similar to infected endocarditis and the diagnosis is made through studying blood cultures. Transesophageal echocardiography can confirm the diagnosis. The most common microorganisms are staphylococcus speciesis. As a matter of fact, complete pacemaker removal appears to be the only definite treatment. We presented a ...
The angular distribution of bremsstrahlung gamma rays produced by fast electrons accelerated in relativistic laser-solid interaction has been studied by photoneutron activation in copper. We show that the gamma-ray beam moves from the target normal to the direction of the k(laser) vector as the scale length is increased. Similar behavior is found also in 2D particle-in-cell simulations.
CALCULATIONS OF THE GIANT-DIPOLE-RESONANCE PHOTONEUTRONS USING A COUPLED EGS4-MORSE CODE J. C. Liu, W. R. Nelson, K. R. Kase and X. S. Mao Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, P. 0. Box 4349, Stanford, CA 94309 Abstract The production and transport of the photoneutrons from the giant-dipoleresonance reaction have been implemented in a coupled EGS4-MORSE code. The total neutron yield (including b...
