The objective of this paper is to define a process for maintenance management and to classify maintenance engineering techniques within that process. Regarding the maintenance management process, we present a generic model proposed for maintenance management which integrates other models found in the literature for built and in-use assets, and consists of eight sequential management building bl...

In industries, Preventive Maintenance (PM) is not a new practice to minimise the sudden breakdown of production machine. PM will be performed at predetermine intervals to provide a balance between failure cost and component utilisation (aging). However, most of PM interval is based on experience or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommendations. Consequently, the benefits from PM are not...

In recent decades, by introducing lean manufacturing the vulnerability to system disturbances has increased and so, the demand for dependable production equipment. The need for having high production equipment availability causes companies to need a more effective and efficient maintenance strategy in order to stay competitive. Despite the increasing demand on reliable production equipment, few...

This study shows the usefulness of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) in maintenance planning and man-agement. An ANN model based on the multi-layer perceptron having three hidden layers and four processing elements per layer was built to predict the expected downtime resulting from a breakdown or a maintenance activity. The model achieved an accuracy of over 70% in predicting the expected downtime.

The reconfigurable vibrating screen (RVS) machine is an innovative beneficiation machine designed for screening different mineral particles of varying sizes and volumes required by the customers’ through the geometric transformation of its screen structure. The successful RVS machine upkeep requires its continuous, availability, reliability and maintainability. The RVS machine downtime, which c...

This paper presents an object model for maintenance management of roofing systems as a case study to demonstrate the applicability of a proposed generic framework for integrating the maintenance management of built-assets. The model builds upon the Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs) (Releases 2.0 and 2.x) to define object requirements and relationships for the exchange and sharing of maintenanc...

A set of technical, administrative and management activities are done in the life cycle of equipment, to be located in good condition and have proper and expected functioning. This is refers to be, maintenance management system (MMS). The framework and models of assessment in order to enhance effectiveness of a MMS could be proposed in two categories: qualitative and quantitative. In this resea...

Mira Kajko-Mattsson,

Problem management is the dominating process within corrective maintenance. It not only handles software problems but also provides quantitative feedback important for assessing product quality, crucial for continuous process analysis and improvement and essential for defect prevention. Chapter 2 gives a detailed description of the problem management process and its constituent phases, activiti...

The Road Management Systems (and the PMS) usually do not take into consideration the future traffic change. The maintenance and rehabilitation actions and the development of the road network structure and the changing traffic structure modify the amount of the traffic on the road section. The deterioration process depends on mostly the volume of the traffic. That is why it is important to take ...

The success and failure of software projects are based on performance indicators such as: compliance to the customer first requirements, customer satisfaction, software quality, budget overrun, schedule compliance and so on. Certainly, project management approaches and best practices known in the field of software engineering or others have been used in software maintenance (SM) management to b...
