John Burkett,

We estimate a semi-parametric model of health production process using a two-stage approach for OECD countries. By regressing data envelopment analysis output efficiency scores on non-discretionary variables, both using Tobit analysis and a single and double bootstrap procedure, we show that inefficiency is strongly related to GDP per head, the education level, and health behaviour such as obes...

Several approaches exist related to categorizing academic journals/institutions/countries into different levels. Most existing grading methods use either a weighted sum of quantitative indicators (including the case of one properly defined quantitative indicator) or quantified peer review results. An important issue of concern for science and technology management is the efficiency of resource ...

Since the original publication on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) by Charnes et al. (1978), a considerable amount of research publications have appeared in decision science literature, a significant portion of which focusing on efficiency and productivity in the banking sector. A comprehensive survey of bank efficiency studies could be found in Fethi and Pasiouras (2010). They have examined ban...

The evaluation of efficiency scores in data envelopment analysis is based on the construction of artificial decision making units subject to some assumptions, usually requiring convexity of the production possibility set. This demands divisibility in input and output, which is not always possible. The so-called free replicability model, proposed by Henry Tulkens, permits input and output to ent...

This chapter is written for analysts and researchers who may use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to statistically evaluate hypotheses about characteristics of production correspondences and factors affecting productivity. Contrary to some characterizations, it is shown that DEA is a full-fledged statistical methodology, based on the characterization of DMU efficiency as a stochastic variable. T...

Sensitivity analysis in DEA is used for improving the efficiency scores of inefficient DMUs for which the efficient units remain unchanged. This paper introduces a generalized sensitivity analysis DEA model by perturbation a given input (or output) for all efficient DMUs. A numerical example illustrates the usefulness of the new model.

This paper incorporates cones on virtual multipliers of inputs and outputs into DEA analysis. Cone DEA models are developed to generalize the dual of the BCC models as well as congestion models. Input-output data and/or numbers of DMUs for BCC models are inadequate to capture many aspects where judgments, expert opinions, and other external information should be taken into analysis. Cone DEA mo...

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a nonparametric approach to estimate relative efficiency of decision making units (dmus). dea and is one of the best quantitative approach and balanced scorecard (bsc) is one of the best qualitative method to measure efficiency of an organization. since simultaneous evaluation of network performance of the quad areas of bsc model is considered as a necessity a...

All organizations have structure. Researchers emphasized the importance of the organizational structure to achieve the goals and mission of an organization. Thus Performance assessment of organizing is essential for managers and decision makers to find weaknesses and eliminate them. Organizations are designed by different methods and process, based on same principles and theories. In this study...

Supply chain performance evaluation problems are complex problems with multiple criteria and multi-layered internal linking activities. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) has been used to evaluate the relative performance of organizational units called Decision Making Units (DMUs). However, the conventional DEA models cannot take into account the complex nature of supply chains with internal linki...
