Objective: Bioactive glass 45S5 is a surface reactive glass-ceramic biomaterial, developed in 1969. BAG 45S5 with particle size of 20-60 nm has the ability of bone regeneration, broad spectrum antibacterial effect, repairs and replaces diseased or damaged bone. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity and determine MIC and MBC values of nano-BAG45S5 on Streptococcus mu...

TiO2-SnO2 thin films were coated on glass and Al / glass substrates by electron gun method. In coating process, the vacuum was 1.5×10-5 torr. Then, films were annealed at 450, 500 and 550 ˚ C. The crystallographic structure and film morphology were investigated by means of XRD and SEM. The electrical (I-V) and optical properties were studied by the two point props system and UV/Vis/NIR spectro...

Many applications rely on the ultra-precise timing of optical signals through fiber, such as fiber interferometers, large telescope arrays, in phase arrayed antennae, optical metrology, and precision navigation and tracking. Environmental changes, specifically those caused by temperature fluctuations, lead to variations in the propagation delay of optical signals and thereby decrease the accura...

We have studied light-induced birefringence (LIB) and surface relief grating (SRG) formation in the series of methylacrylate polymers. The effect of material structure such as length of photochromic side chain, glass transition temperature and molecular structure of azo units on LIB and SRG are studied. The optical formation of self-induced SRG on films of these materials is also presented.

Zigzag ZnS thin films prepared by thermal evaporation method using glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique. ZnS films with zigzag structure were produced at deposition angles of 0˚, 60˚ and 80˚ at room temperature on glass substrates. Surface morphology of the films w:as char:acterized by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The optical properties of the specimens were i...

A glass-ceramic optical fiber containing Ba2TiSi2O8 nanocrystals fabricated using a novel combination of the melt-in-tube method and successive heat treatment is reported for the first time. For the melt-in-tube method, fibers act as a precursor at the drawing temperature for which the cladding glass is softened while the core glass is melted. It is demonstrated experimentally that following he...

Porous materials in general have received great attention from the last century. The development of new porous materials and the preparation of new composites based on porous materials is a subject of interest. The development of porous silicon based optical composite materials opened up new ways of incorporating optically active sol-gel materials into porous silicon. High purity silica optical...

For an integrated free-space optical interconnection system we suggest the use of microprisms to achieve large coupling angles at low loss. Prisms were fabricated in photoresist and quartz glass by analog lithography. High-energy-beam-sensitive glass was used as the gray-tone mask. Optical testing of the prisms shows acceptable surface quality and high efficiency (95%).

This article reports on optical properties of Mn 2+ (0.5 mol%): 49.5 B2O3 10PbO 30CdO -10AlF3 glasses. Optical absorption spectrum of the manganese ions doped glass exhibits broad absorption band at 473 nm. Photoluminescence spectrum of Mn 2+ (0.5 mol %): 49.5B2O330CdO – 10PbO 10AlF3 glass has revealed a red emission at 618 nm with an excitation wavelength 467 nm.
