Comparison of the effectiveness of Positive parenting and Parent management Training on children's behavioral problems

Abstract:

Background: Positive parenting education and parental management can be effective ways to solve childrenchr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))s behavioral problems. In this between, the comparison of the effectiveness of these two methods has received less attention . The purpose of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of positive parenting and parent management Training on the childrenchr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))s behavioral problems. Method: The research method was a quasi-experimental with pre-test, post-test design, and one-month follow-up design. The statistical population included all parents of female students with behavioral problems in primary schools of District One of Tehran in the academic year of 2019-2020. 45 parents of children with behavioral problems were selected by the Conners’ Teachers Questionnaire and randomly assigned in to 3 groups of 15 parents (two experimental groups and one control group). The Conners’ Parents questionnaire was performed in all three stages of the study and on all three groups. Positive parenting training was conducted for 8 sessions of 90 minutes and parental management training was conducted for 12 sessions of 90 minutes on individuals in experimental groups and the control group did not receive any intervention. Finally, the data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance. Results: The results of this study showed that in Comparing the two educational methods No significant difference was observed (P <0.05).  positive parenting education and parentaing management have the same effect on subscales of childrenchr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))s behavioral problems. But, the difference between the experimental groups and the control group in the subscales of conduct disorder and hyperactivity-impulsivity (P <0.05) is significant. Conclusion: According to the findings, both positive parenting and parental management methods are effective in reducing childrenchr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))s behavioral problems. In this regard, the results of the present study, there is no clear difference in the effectiveness of positive parenting and parentaing management in reducing childrenchr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))s behavioral problems.
