Abstract:

Introduction: Head and neck cancer is one of the most important cancers with low survival. This study was designed to evaluate the one-year survival of patients with head and neck cancer and related demographic factors. Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study that reviewed the records of the patients with head and neck cancer (193 patients) in 2007-2013. In this study, Kaplan-Meyer method and Cox multiple regression were used to analyze the data. In this study, the information obtained by Excel and Stata 16 software was analyzed. Results: The results showed 117 (60.6%) patients were male and 76 (39.4%) were female. The mean age of the patients at the time of diagnosis was 62.51± 7.76. Three, six and 12-month survivals were 66.3%, 40.5% and 11.1%, respectively. The results showed that only the age of the patients had a significant relationship with the survival of patients up to one year (HR=65.13, CI= 4.52-41.19). Conclusion: One-year survival of patients with head and neck cancer in Yazd City is low and the elderly usually have a lower survival than young people.

The Effect of Time-dependent Prognostic Factors on Survival of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer using Bayesian Extended Cox Model

Abstract Background: Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers around the world. The aim of this study was to use Extended Cox Model (ECM) with Bayesian approach to survey the behavior of potential time-varying prognostic factors of Non-small cell lung cancer. Materials and Methods: Survival status of all 190 patients diagnosed with Non-Small Cell lung cancer referring to hospitals in ...

alternative for the cox regression model: using parametric models to analyze the survival of cancer patients

background: although the cox proportional hazard regression is the most popular model for analyzing the prognostic factors on survival of cancer patients, under certain circumstances, parametric models estimate the parameter more efficiently than the cox model.  the aim of this study was to compare the cox regression model  with parametric models in patients with gastric cancer who registered a...

Identification of Factors Affecting Metastatic Gastric Cancer Patients’ Survival Using the Random Survival Forest and Comparison with Cox Regression Model

Background and Objectives: In survival analysis, using the Cox model to determine the effective factors requires the assumptions whose failure of leads to biased results. The aim of this paper was to determine the factors affecting the survival of metastatic gastric cancer patients using the non-parametric method of Randomized Survival Forest (RSF) model and to compare its result with the Cox m...
