Effect of citric acid chelating agent on morphology of ZnO particles prepared by hydrothermal method

Authors

Abstract:

Abstract Zinc oxide is one of the most widely used and important materials in today's science and industry. In this study, ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method. Zinc acetate, citric acid and deionized water was respectively used as a source of zinc ion, solvent and chelating agent. In this study, the effect of citric acid concentration as an additive was studied on morphology and particle size of ZnO. The synthesized powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) ,infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and specific surface analysis (BET).The results of XRD analysis showed, the final products have hexagonal structure and are Single-phase. Increasing additive concentration changes the intensity of peaks and crystallizes rate. The results of FTIR and its comparison with existing functional groups confirmed the absence of citric acid in the final product. And the functional groups are just related to pure zinc oxide. SEM images showed that the use of chelating agent affects the growth of particles and morphology. BET showed noticeable changes in the specific surface area of synthesized samples in the presence of chelating agent.

Effect of chelating agent on Hydroxyapatite morphology under hydrothermal process

Citrate was used as chelating or morphology regulating agent in this study. In the presence of regulating agent a two-dimensional monetite phase evolved into  three-dimentional hydroxyapatite microspheres with an average diameter of 4 µm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies revealed the importance of Ca/citrate ratio in regulating the particle m...

Correlation of morphology and luminescent properties of ZnO nano particles to different surfactants via hydrothermal method

Nanocrystalline Zinc Oxide (ZnO) powders with different morphology have been successfully synthesized by using different surfactants such as Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB), Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (SDS), and Tri Ethanol Amine (TEA) via hydrothermal method. The products were characterized by means of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electr...

Effect of Chelating Agent on Morphology and Phase Evolution of Spinel Nanoparticles Synthesized via Sol-Gel Method

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of glycyrol (tri-dentate, GLY) and ethylenediamine (double- dentate clay, en) chelating agents on phase and morphology changes of spinel nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel method. Characterization of samples was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray...
