Abstract:

Vitamin D is an immune modulator hormone with an anti-inflammatory effect. In this study the potential association between vitamin D and risk of Covid-19 disease were examined. Data of worldwide mortality rate of Covid-19 pandemic according to geographical distribution in 108 countries were analyzed. The results shows Covid-19 outbreaks and particularly mortality exhibit a decreasing North-South gradient. The explanation of this North-South gradient might be for two possibility; The high prevalence of older people in Northern European population and the strong correlation between severe vitamin D deficiency and mortality rates in those countries.
