The consequences of tillage technology: The sustainability perspective (Case of Fars province, Iran)

Activities to reduce soil erosion, soil fertility and increasing agricultural production and finally crop income have considered fundamental in the implementation of sustainable agriculture in Iran. This research investigates the effects of no-till (NL) technology to reduce soil erosion and increasing agricultural income and eventually for achieving sustainability. Data were collected through questionnaires. The research sample includes 165 NL adopter farmers were selected using multi-stage stratified random sampling method in Fars province, Iran. The findings revealed that this technology increases performance, reduces water consumption, energy and input consumption. The findings will be useful for understanding the effects of no-till technology on agricultural systems. Also, it provides information to performing the necessary planning for more effective implementation of no-till technology. Based on the results of regression, wheat yields, increased use of pesticides, awareness of the benefits and satisfaction of NL technology are the influencing factors of the farmers` willingness to continue using NL technology.
