Abstract:

Design of exhaust manifold is important due to its effects on performance of catalyst, thermal and thermo- mechanical loads. In this paper, first transient analysis of fluid was carried out with FLUENT software, then time-average temperature and heat transfer coefficient contour for three cycle were mapped on inner surface of exhaust manifold with MATLAB software for thermomechanical analysis. For validation of thermal analysis, experimental thermal data was used. In thermomechanical analysis, stress distribution in exhaust manifold due to thermal load, residual stress in exhaust manifold after cooling, vertical displacement of flange due to thermal load, flange torsion in vertical direction due to plastic strain has been validated. Finally, necessary geometrical corrections for optimal design structural resistance and strength of it has been delivered.

Thermo-mechanical high-cycle fatigue analysis of exhaust manifold of turbocharged engine with two-way coupling FSI

NNowadays, car manufactures in order to increasing torque and power with consider to fuel consumption, have swept to production of turbocharged engines. With consider to exhaust gas-temperature rises in boosted engines, recognition of critical locations of exhaust manifold in the worse condition of engine (full load and maximum speed), to prevent fracture of exhaust manifold is very important. ...

Experimental and finite element vibrational analysis of exhaust manifold heat shield

Most of internal combustion engines have one or two heat shields that have been installed on the exhaust manifold to avoid the heat transfer to upper parts of the engine such as the valve cover. In some engines, this part fails due to the fracture and causes engine noise and other failures in the engine. In this paper, the failure of a heat shield due to vibrational loads of the engine has been...

Fluid-structure Interaction Vibration Analysis of Vertical Cylindrical Containers with Elastic Bottom Plate Made of Functionally Graded Materials

In the present paper a method is proposed to investigate the free vibration of a partially liquid-filled cylindrical tank. The mechanical properties of the container are assumed to change continuously along the thickness according to volume fraction Power-law, Sigmoid or Exponential distribution. The liquid is supposed to be incompressible and in viscid and its velocity potential is formulated ...

Fluid-structure interaction studies on marine propeller

Composite propellers offer high damping characteristics and corrosion resistance when compared with metal propellers. But the design of a hybrid composite propeller with the same strength of metal propeller is the critical task. For this purpose, the present paper focusses on fluid-structure interaction analysis of hybrid composite propeller with Carbon/Epoxy, R-Glass/Epoxy and S2-Glass/Epoxy t...
